Αντικείμενο της διατριβής είναι η έκθεση του ανθρώπου από το μαγνητικό πεδίο, στο περιβάλλον των υποσταθμών διανομής. Προσδιορίζεται πειραματικά το επίπεδο του μαγνητικού πεδίου και οι μετρήσεις που πραγματοποιήθηκαν συγκρίνονται με τα διεθνώς καθορισμένα όρια. Επίσης προτείνεται μια μέθοδος περιορισμού του μαγνητικού πεδίου, στο περιβάλλον των υπαίθριων υποσταθμών διανομής επί διστύλων.Στο πρώτο κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζονται τα όρια ασφαλείας για την έκθεση του ανθρώπου σε ηλεκτρικά και μαγνητικά πεδία βιομηχανικής συχνότητας. Επίσης γίνεται παρουσίαση των μετρήσεων του μαγνητικού και ηλεκτρικού πεδίου που έχουν γίνει τόσο στην Ελλάδα όσο και σε άλλες χώρες. Τέλος γίνεται αξιολόγηση των ορίων ασφαλείας του ηλεκτρικού και μαγνητικού πεδίου συχνότητας 50 Hz με τη χρήση μακροσκοπικών μοντέλων.Στο δεύτερο κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζονται οι διάφορες μέθοδοι μείωσης του μαγνητικού πεδίου που εφαρμόζονται σε δίκτυα μεταφοράς και διανομής και σε υποσταθμούς ηλεκτρικής ενέργειας. Επιπλέον γίνεται θεωρητικός υπολογισμός του μαγνητικού πεδίου κάτω από εναέριες γραμμές μέσης τάσης 20 kV.Στο τρίτο κεφάλαιο παρουσιάζεται ο σκοπός της εργασίας, ο οποίος είναι ο προσδιορισμός με μετρήσεις του μαγνητικού πεδίου στο περιβάλλον των υποσταθμών διανομής (20 kV/400 V). Επίσης παρουσιάζεται και η πειραματική διερεύνηση μιας μεθόδου μείωσης του μαγνητικού πεδίου που εφαρμόστηκε σε δίστυλους υποσταθμούς διανομής, με θωράκιση των πινάκων διανομής χαμηλής τάσης με φύλλα αλουμινίου πάχους 0,5 mm. Στο τέταρτο κεφάλαιο δίνονται οι μετρήσεις της μαγνητικής επαγωγής που πραγματοποιήθηκαν στο περιβάλλον των υποσταθμών διανομής (20 kV/400V).Στο πέμπτο κεφάλαιο γίνεται ο σχολιασμός επί των αποτελεσμάτων των μετρήσεων και εξάγονται συμπεράσματα από αυτές.Στο έκτο κεφάλαιο δίνεται η συνεισφορά της εργασίας στην έρευνα και τις πρακτικές εφαρμογές. Τέλος δίνεται η βιβλιογραφία που χρησιμοποιήθηκε.
