Ο σκοπός της παρούσας διατριβής έχει δύο όψεις: αρχικά να διερευνήσει κατά πόσο είναι ενημερωμένοι οι πολίτες για το περιβαλλοντικό πρόβλημα της κλιματικής αλλαγής καθώς και ποιες είναι οι απόψεις, οι γνώσεις και οι στάσεις τους για την ύπαρξη και τη δημιουργία της.Ταυτόχρονα, στοχεύει στην ανάλυση του βαθμού ικανοποίησης και εμπιστοσύνης των πολιτών στους εμπλεκόμενους φορείς (κυβερνητικούς και μη κυβερνητικούς), με τη χρήση της μεθόδου MUSA (Multicriteria Satisfaction Analysis) ως εργαλείο ποιοτικής παλινδρόμησης. Επίσης, επιχειρεί να διερευνήσει τις πιθανές παρούσες δράσεις που έχουν αναλάβει οι εμπλεκόμενοι φορείς καθώς και τις μελλοντικές δράσεις στις οποίες προτίθενται να συμμετέχουν οι πολίτες για την αντιμετώπιση της κλιματικής αλλαγής και την επίτευξη της αειφορικής ανάπτυξης. Προκειμένου να υλοποιηθεί ο σκοπός της έρευνας χρησιμοποιήθηκε εξειδικευμένο ερωτηματολόγιο με κατάλληλα δομημένες ερωτήσεις. Η έρευνα διεξήχθη στην Ελλάδα, από τον Ιανουάριο του 2014 έως τον Ιούνιο του 2015 και συλλέχθηκαν 1536 ερωτηματολόγια.Από τα αποτελέσματα προκύπτει, ότι η πλειονότητα των πολιτών, παρόλο που δεν εμπιστεύεται τα μέσα μαζικής επικοινωνίας για την ενημέρωση της για την κλιματική αλλαγή, φαίνεται να είναι αρκετά ενημερωμένη για τα περιβαλλοντικά προβλήματα της χώρας, καθώς οι περισσότεροι πολίτες παρακολουθούν ή διαβάζουν άλλοτε εντατικά άλλοτε όχι ειδήσεις για το περιβάλλον και θεωρούν την προβολή της κλιματικής αλλαγής από τα μέσα μαζικής επικοινωνίας (ΜΜΕ) μέτρια ως μικρή. Παράλληλα, θεωρούν, ότι η κλιματική αλλαγή είναι επικίνδυνη και ότι οφείλεται τόσο σε φυσιολογικές αλλαγές της φύσης όσο και σε ανθρώπινες. Αντίθετα ένα αρκετά σημαντικό ποσοστό θεωρεί, ότι η κλιματική αλλαγή οφείλεται στους επιστήμονες, οι οποίοι υπερεκτιμούν τα αποδεικτικά στοιχεία για δικά τους συμφέροντα και στα ΜΜΕ που διογκώνουν το θέμα της κλιματικής αλλαγής. Σχετικά με την ικανοποίηση και την εμπιστοσύνη των πολιτών στους εμπλεκόμενους φορείς και για τις δράσεις που έχουν αναλάβει για την αντιμετώπιση της κλιματικής αλλαγής, οι περισσότεροι πολίτες είναι μερικώς ικανοποιημένοι και εμπιστεύονται περισσότερο τους μη κυβερνητικούς εμπλεκόμενους φορείς και τους επιστήμονες για να συμμετέχουν σε δράσεις. Οι δράσεις, τις οποίες είναι διατεθειμένοι να πραγματοποιήσουν, είναι αυτές πουαφορούν στη μείωση των ρύπων, στην εξοικονόμηση ενέργειας καθώς και σεδράσεις που αφορούν την ανακύκλωση υλικών και την κομποστοποίηση οικιακών αποβλήτων. Τέλος, είναι πρόθυμοι να συμμετάσχουν ενεργά σε πολιτικές προστασίας του περιβάλλοντος, να ενταχθούν και να παρέχουν οικονομική ενίσχυση σε περιβαλλοντικές οργανώσεις και να αγοράζουν προϊόντα φιλικά προς το περιβάλλον.
Το σύνδρομο των πολυκυστικών ωοθηκών είναι μια συχνή ενδοκρινολογική διαταραχή στον γυναικείο πληθυσμό αναπαραγωγικής ηλικίας. Αποτελεί τη συχνότερη αιτία υπερανδρογοναιμίας και χαρακτηρίζεται από διαταραχές περιόδου, υπογονιμότητα, δασυτριχισμό και δερματολογικά προβλήματα, ενώ μπορεί να έχει και σοβαρότερες συνέπειες, όπως την ανάπτυξη σακχαρώδους διαβήτη και τον κίνδυνο εμφάνισης καρδιαγγειακής νόσου. Παρά το γεγονός ότι πολλές μελέτες έχουν ερευνήσει το σύνδρομο πολυκυστικών ωοθηκών, υπάρχουν ακόμη ερωτήματα σχετικά με τους μηχανισμούς που συμμετέχουν στη δημιουργία του. Φαίνεται πως οφείλεται σε ένα συνδυασμό γενετικών και περιβαλλοντικών παραγόντων.Το γονίδιο AKT2 έχει συσχετιστεί με την αυξημένη ανοχή στην ινσουλίνη και τη μειωμένη διάθεση γλυκόζης, δύο από τα χαρακτηριστικά που απαντώνται σε γυναίκες με PCOS.Οι παράγοντες OPG και sRANKL αποτελούν έναν σημαντικό προγνωστικό δείκτη για την εμφάνιση της καρδιαγγειακής νόσου και σχετίζονται με το σύνδρομο πολυκυστικών ωοθηκών, αφού όπως αναφέρθηκε οι PCOS ασθενείς εμφανίζουν αυξημένο κίνδυνο για καρδιαγγειακά νοσήματα. Ο σκοπός ευτής της μελέτης είναι να διερευνηθούν: α) οι τέσσερις πολυμορφισμοί του γονιδίου AKT2, β) οι παράγοντες OPG και sRANKL και γ) το ορμονικό προφίλ αλλά και τα κλινικά χαρακτηριστικά των ασθενών με σύνδρομο πολυκυστικών ωοθηκών στον ελληνικό γυναικείο πληθυσμό.
