Neutrophils and the levels of total, direct and indirect bilirubin have a significant positive linear correlation with the level of lipid peroxidation in patients with choledocholithiasis. Neutrophilia and hiperbilirubinemia observed in this way represent important parameters in estimating the level of liver tissue damage in choledocholithiasis.
Summary. -In this study, a major part of genome of the pestivirus isolate 297 from Slovakia, comprising the 7195 nt-long 5΄-UTR-NS3 region was sequenced and analyzed. Conserved cleavage sites between individual viral proteins of this region were determined and the number of amino acids of respective proteins was estimated as follows: 168 for N pro , 100 for C, 227 for E rns , 195 for E1, 373 for E2, 70 for p7, 453 for NS2, and 683 for NS3. Based on sequence and phylogenetic analysis of 5΄-UTR, N pro , and E2 the isolate 297 was characterized as a border disease virus of genotype 3. It was found to be distinct from other BDV-3 strains analyzed so far, consequently forming a distinct branch within the phylogenetic clade. All these data expand a relatively limited knowledge of genetic properties of individual BDV genotypes and strains circulating in the Central Europe.Keywords: border disease virus; sheep isolate; pestivirus * Corresponding author. Literature data on the association between the incidence of ruptured abdominal aorta and seasons are contradictory. The influence of climatic factors on the rupture of abdominal aorta is geographically dependent.The aim of this research was the investigation of the connection between the incidence of ruptured abdominal aorta and seasons at the territory of the southern Serbia.In this retrospective study, 59 consecutive patients, who were hospitalized in the Vascular Surgery Clinic, Clinical Center Niš, between 2008 and 2011, were involved, having the rupture of the infrarenal segment of the abdominal aorta. The incidence of the ruptured aneurysm of the abdominal aorta was analyzed with regard to calendar years, seasons and months.There was no significant connection between calendar year (χ 2 test=3,836, p=0,28), seasons (χ 2 test=3,4, p=0,334) and months (χ 2 test =11,109, p=0,434) and the incidence of the disease.According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that the incidence of ruptured abdominal aortic aneurysm in the southern Serbia is not related to seasons and months during the year.
Valid indicators of the energy status of cows are the body condition, parameters of the metabolic profile, hormonal status, and organic components of milk. The energy status of cows of the Holstein-Friesian breed from four farms was estimated on the grounds of urea, protein and fat concentration in milk. Investigations covered 62 samples of milk (11 from farm A, 16 from farm B, 15 from farm C, and 20 from farm D). All cows were in the first stage of lactation and fed rations recommended for that category of animal. The average fat concentration in all milk samples was 23±13 g/l, the average protein concentration was 29±3 g/l, while the average urea concentration was 4.6±1.3 mmol/l. It could be concluded on the basis of the value for the milk fat concentration alone that a decreased milk fat syndrome was present. In addition, graphic presentations are given for the relation between urea concentration and protein concentration, as well as protein and fat concentrations in the individual milk samples. Such an analysis provided a more detailed picture of the energy status of the examined cows. It was established that cows on farm A had a deficiency of energy and protein, and cows on farms B and C a deficiency of energy with a relative surplus of proteins. It was established that cows from farm D had a deficiency of energy, and there was an equal number of cows with a deficiency and with a relative surplus of proteins. The obtained results provide grounds for making recommendations for correcting the feed rations and improving the health of the cows. It stems from the obtained results that the determination of urea, fat and protein concentrations in milk is a reliable indicator of the energy status of cows, that it is rational and financially acceptable for every producer, regardless of whether it is implemented in small or large cattle farms. The diagnostic procedures used so far have been implemented in a limited form in daily practice because of insufficient reliability (evaluation of body condition) or lack of economic feasibility (metabolic profile and hormonal status of cows)
Abstract:The aim of the study: The aim was to compare the effects of intermittent and continuous infl ow occlusion on liver I/R injury in an experimental model. Method: The experiment was done using the Wistar rats that underwent continuous and intermittent infl ow liver vascular occlusion. Blood and liver tissue samples were taken and parameters of hepatic ischemia/reperfusion injury were analyzed and compared. Results: Serum activities of ALT, AST and LDH were signifi cantly higher and ALP activity and albumin concentration were markedly lower in rats with continuous liver ischemia. Also, histopathological examination revealed more severe changes in animals with continuous liver vascular occlusion. Conclusion: The results of biochemical assay and histopathological examination were concurrent, both indicating more serious parenchymatous damage caused by continuous hepatic pedicle clamping. Study results clearly demonstrated a better tolerance of the liver to intermittent Pringle maneuver (Tab. 1, Fig. 5, Ref. 9). Full Text in PDF www.elis.sk.
