Elméleti összefoglalás A disszertáció - összegzi és rendszerezi a mémek és internetes mémek szakirodalmát Richard Dawkins Az önző gén című alapművétől a Henry Jenkins-féle újmédia-modellektől napjainkig (elsősorban Limor Shifman és Ryan Milner munkásságára támaszkodva) - szintetizálja a Mihail Bahtyin-féle karnevál és a Jürgen Habermas-féle társadalmi nyilvánosság elméletét, megállapítva, hogy a refeudalizált nyilvánosság ellennyilvánossága – egyfajta virtuális karneválként – az internetes mémek nyilvánossága számos analógia (alacsony részvételi küszöb, decentralizáltság, elméleti egyenlő hozzáférés, a tekintély kigúnyolása, paródia, maszk fizikailag vagy virtuálisan) - a mémek nyilvánosságában is érvényesül az egyenlőtlenség, ráadásul elsősorban a sztereotipizáló humoron keresztül - szintetizálja a posztkolonialista klasszikus szakirodalom és az Európa keleti felére vonatkoztatott továbbgondolásainak lehetőségeit az internetes mémek nyilvánosságában a kelet-európaiakkal szemben tapasztalható sztereotípiák feldolgozása céljából - új fogalmak bevezetését javasolja ezen jelenségek leírására, úgy, mint a blackfacing mintájára az eastfacing, valamint a hipster sexism mintájára a hipster westernism. Az empíria összefoglalása A disszertáció során elvégzett kutatás a potenciális mémkészítő vagy mémmegosztó, maguk a mémalkotások, illetve a befogadói reakciók szintjén is elemezte a korpuszt, így a kutatás - 1255, a 9gag.com százmilliós látogatottságú mémportálon kulcsszavakkal keresett mémpéldány manuális, sokdimenziós kódolása - mintegy 800 ezer like és 47 ezer hozzászólás elemzése mellett - 136 kérdőív kitöltésével is kiegészült. Az eredmények összefoglalása A kutatás során bebizonyosodott, hogy - valóban rendkívül sok sztereotípia jelenik meg az internetes mémek nyilvánosságában, - e sztereotípiák számos vizuális reprezentációs elemmel bírnak (karakterek, öltözék, járművek, környezet, stb.) - valóban erőteljes a nyugati kódok (márkák, karakterek, mémműfajok, stb.) jelenléte - a készítők és befogadók még akkor is többé-kevésbé elfogadják, sőt fenntartják ezt a sztereotip képet, amennyiben maguk is tagjai a sztereotipikus ábrázolásnak kitett csoportnak. - ténylegesen felfedezhetőek olyan gyakorlatok, amelyek más – rassz-, nemi, szexuális orientáció vagy vallás alapján történő sztereotipizálás kapcsán ma már erőteljes ellenérzést váltanak ki a nyilvánosságban, előzményei azonban megtalálhatóak a blackface comedyben és az említett „hipszter szexizmusban”, így indokolt lehet az említett eastface comedy és hipster westernism kifejezések bevezetése ezekre a jelenségekre.
