Induction drugs are one of the essential drugs used in intubation and its selection should be made by considering the complications of the drug and patients' clinical condition. However, the researchers have given less attention to the drugs used for the intubation of COVID-19 patients.

Developing targeted and slow-release antibiotic delivery systems can effectively reduce drug overdose and side effects. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial activity of vancomycin-loaded soy protein nanoparticles (vancomycin-SPNs). For the preparation of SPNs, the desolvation method was applied in different concentrations of vancomycin and soy protein (15:5, 10:15, 6:20, 8:25, and 10:30 of vancomycin:soy protein). Scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and FTIR were used for nanoparticle characterization. Antibacterial activity was evaluated by the radial diffusion assay (RDA) and absorbance methods. Proper synthesis was demonstrated by characterization. The best drug loading (% entrapment efficiency = 90.2%), the fastest release rate (% release = 88.2%), and the best antibacterial activity were observed in ratio 10:30 of vancomycin:SPNs. Results showed that SPNs are a potent delivery system for antibiotic loading and slow release to control antibiotic use.
Objective: Epidemiological evidence shows that the prevalence of patients with comorbidity of diabetes mellitus (DM), in Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is remarkable and they have poor prognosis. We aimed to investigate the comorbidity of diabetes and covid-19 in positive Polymerase Chain Reaction people in Yazd.
Materials and Methods: This retrospective cohort study included data of 570 COVID-19 positive patients, admitted to Shahid Sadoughi Hospital in Yazd, Iran, from February2019 to May 2020, including demographic data and clinical outcome of COVID-19. Study data were analyzed using SPSS software-22 and T-test, Chi-square and a binary logistic regression model were used for modeling.
Results: Prevalence of COVID-19 patients with diabetes was 27% and the percentage of male patients was 62.6%. Additionally, duration of hospitalization significantly higher in diabetic patients (P= 0.004), need to invasive mechanical ventilation in diabetic patients was significantly higher than non-diabetic patients (P˂ 0.001)
Conclusion: DM is one of the most important comorbidity with COVID-19 patients and this comorbidity affects the severity of the disease and the outcome of patients.
Edema is a rare complication induced by insulin therapy, which is mostly developed after initiation or intensification of insulin treatment in diabetic patients. Edema can either be localized or generalized. Our patient was a 34-year-old woman with type 2 diabetes. She was under treatment with oral agents medication, but recently insulin therapy was initiated for her due to inability to control her hyperglycemia and development of diabetic ketoacidosis. The patient referred while suffering from bilateral lower extremity edema. During follow-up, her edema resolved spontaneously without any specific treatments. In this patient, the diagnosis of edema was based on ruling out other causes, along with more accurate blood glucose control during diabetic ketoacidosis process and spontaneous recovery. Based on our finding, it can be concluded that insulininduced edema is not a worrisome problem and in most cases, its symptoms resolve without treatment and through restricting the consumption of water and salt.
Background: Auriculotherapy is a sub-branch of acupuncture and is an effective method in acute and chronic diseases. Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of Auriculotherapy on pulmonary findings and sleep quality in patients with Covid 19.Methods: The present study is a clinical trial study in which 70 hospitalized patients with Covid 19 with pulmonary findings and low sleep quality were randomly divided into intervention and control groups. Auriculotherapy was performed with electrical stimulation in one session and then Vakaria seed was placed in acupressure points and stimulated for one week (8 times a day for one minute each time). Data collection tools were checklist of pulmonary findings, Pittsburgh questionnaires and demographic characteristics.Results: The results showed that there was no significant difference between the mean SPO2 score in the two groups before and after the intervention (P = 0.09). There was a statistically significant difference between the mean score of dyspnea (P = 0.003), cough (P <0.008) and overall score of sleep quality in the two groups before and after the intervention (P <0.001).Conclusion: The results of this study showed that Auriculotherapy is effective on pulmonary improvements and sleep quality in patients with Covid 19.Trial registration: IRCT, IRCT20180608040007N2.
