Entre 1960 et 1962, deux adolescents sont placés par un juge des enfants dans un hôpital psychiatrique d'Alsace. Qualifiés de « pervers sexuels délinquants », Michel, 15 ans et Bernard, 18 ans, sont en réalité deux jeunes homosexuels. Or à cette époque l'homosexualité est considérée comme un trouble psychiatrique qu'il faudrait « guérir ». Dans cette optique, les psychiatres mettent en place des thérapies de choc ou de dégoûts pour pousser les « patients » à devenir hétérosexuels. Dans cet hôpital, le médecin en chef va expérimenter sur eux deux nouvelles substances : la mescaline et le LSD. Injectés à très haute dose, l'idée est de provoquer un choc psychique puissant dans l'espoir de modifier l'orientation sexuelle de ces deux adolescents.
