The following introductory remarks set the scene for the special collection of essays titled Binary Modernisms: Re/Appropriations of Modernist Art in the Digital Age. This short section reflects on the impact of the technological evolutions of the early 20th and early 21st centuries of life, art and culture, and investigates the historical contexts of new technologies' significance in our relationship to art and culture, and their production.
