MXene, a family of two-dimensional transition metal carbides/nitrides, is one of the most attractive photothermal materials due to its unique hydrophilicity, tunable surface activity, and outstanding photothermal conversion performance by absorbing near-infrared (NIR) light or solar light. The integration of MXene into three-dimensional polymer hydrogels opens up new possibilities for developing advanced material platforms. In this review, we summarize the synthesis of MXene-based hydrogels and highlight their recent progress in photothermal applications. Challenges and perspectives for future research are also outlined.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
