Breast cancer is the most common invasive cancer with the highest cancer occurrence in females. Handheld ultrasound is one of the most efficient ways to identify and diagnose the breast cancer. The area and the shape information of a lesion is very helpful for clinicians to make diagnostic decisions. In this study we propose a new deep-learning scheme, semi-pixel-wise cycle generative adversarial net (SPCGAN) for segmenting the lesion in 2D ultrasound. The method takes the advantage of a fully convolutional neural network (FCN) and a generative adversarial net to segment a lesion by using prior knowledge. We compared the proposed method to a fully connected neural network and the level set segmentation method on a test dataset consisting of 32 malignant lesions and 109 benign lesions. Our proposed method achieved a Dice similarity coefficient (DSC) of 0.92 while FCN and the level set achieved 0.90 and 0.79 respectively. Particularly, for malignant lesions, our method increases the DSC (0.90) of the fully connected neural network to 0.93 significantly (p <0.001). The results show that our SPCGAN can obtain robust segmentation results. The framework of SPCGAN is particularly effective when sufficient training samples are not available compared to FCN. Our proposed method may be used to relieve the radiologists' burden for annotation.
Mammographic image analysis is a fundamental problem in the computer-aided diagnosis scheme, which has recently made remarkable progress with the advance of deep learning. However, the construction of a deep learning model requires training data that are large and sufficiently diverse in terms of image style and quality. In particular, the diversity of image style may be majorly attributed to the vendor factor. However, mammogram collection from vendors as many as possible is very expensive and sometimes impractical for laboratory-scale studies. Accordingly, to further augment the generalization capability of deep learning models to various vendors with limited resources, a new contrastive learning scheme is developed. Specifically, the backbone network is firstly trained with a multi-style and multi-view unsupervised selflearning scheme for the embedding of invariant features to various vendor styles. Afterward, the backbone network is then recalibrated to the downstream tasks of mass detection, multi-view mass matching, BI-RADS classification and breast density classification with specific supervised learning. The proposed method is evaluated with mammograms from four vendors and two unseen public datasets. The experimental results suggest that our approach can effectively improve analysis performance on both seen and unseen domains, and outperforms many state-of-the-art (SOTA) generalization methods.
The artificial potential field method is usually applied to the path planning problem of driverless cars or mobile robots. For example, it has been applied for the obstacle avoidance problem of intelligent cars and the autonomous navigation system of storage robots. However, there have been few studies on its application to intelligent bridge cranes. The artificial potential field method has the advantages of being a simple algorithm with short operation times. However, it is also prone to problems of unreachable targets and local minima. Based on the analysis of the operating characteristics of bridge cranes, a two-dimensional intelligent running environment model of a bridge crane was constructed in MATLAB. According to the basic theory of the artificial potential field method, the double-layer artificial potential field method was deduced, and the path and track fuzzy processing method was proposed. These two methods were implemented in MATLAB simulations. The results showed that the improved artificial potential field method could avoid static obstacles efficiently.
The transition from university to the workforce can be a daunting experience for many university graduates, due, at least in part, to an increasingly competitive, and often unstable labour market. University students are increasingly challenged to complete traditional classroom learning while also developing vocational identities and the skills needed to adapt to the 21 st century workforce. Career construction theory (Savickas, 1997(Savickas, , 2005 explains career development as a process of adaptation to career challenges, including key career transition skills. According to the model, successful career adaptation (adaptive results) is a function of relatively stable individual differences (adaptivity), psychosocial resources used to manage career-related challenges (adaptability resources), and the specific behaviours that people engage in to address occupational challenges (adaptive responses). Using a retrospective recall design, the current study tested some of the key theoretical assumptions of the career construction model of adaptation in the context of the school-to-work transition with a sample of 303 recent university graduates. The results showed that career adaptability resources mediated the relationship between adaptivity (proactive personality, cognitive flexibility) and adapting responses (proactive career behaviour, career construction behaviour). Career adaptability was also positively related to perceived career success and person-job fit perceptions; this positive relationship was partially mediated by proactive career behaviours. Overall, these findings support the career construction model of adaptation and contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of career construction theory and the school-to-work transition process.
Lesion detection is a fundamental problem in the computeraided diagnosis scheme for mammography. To develop a deep learning-based model for detecting rib fractures on chest X-Ray and to evaluate its performance based on a multicenter study. Chest digital radiography (DR) images from 18,631 subjects were used for the training, testing, and validation of the deep learning fracture detection model. We first built a pretrained model, a simple framework for contrastive learning of visual representations (simCLR), using contrastive learning with the training set. Then, simCLR was used as the backbone for a fully convolutional one-stage (FCOS) objective detection network to identify rib fractures from chest X-ray images. The detection performance of the network for four different types of rib fractures was evaluated using the testing set. A total of 127 images from Data-CZ and 109 images from Data-CH with the annotations for four types of rib fractures were used for evaluation. The results showed that for Data-CZ, the sensitivities of the detection model with no pretraining, pretrained ImageNet, and pretrained DR were 0.465, 0.735, and 0.822, respectively, and the average number of false positives per scan was five in all cases. For the Data-CH test set, the sensitivities of three different pretraining methods were 0.403, 0.655, and 0.748. In the identification of four fracture types, the detection model achieved the highest performance for displaced fractures, with sensitivities of 0.873 and 0.774 for the Data-CZ and Data-CH test sets, respectively, with 5 false positives per scan, followed by nondisplaced fractures, buckle fractures, and old fractures. A pretrained model can significantly improve the performance of the deep learning-based rib fracture detection based on X-ray images, which can reduce missed diagnoses and improve the diagnostic efficacy.
