Objective This study examined patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) as a means to explore the impacts of chronic disease on life courses. Methods A semi-structured in-depth interviews were conducted with nine patients in China in 2017; participants were included based on their having or having had facial butterfly erythema. Results The study focused on both the disease’s impact on the patients’ health and on their daily lives. Four core themes emerged: visible changes in the patient’s bodies, social dilemmas, “the encouragement of disease”, and a new perspective on the relationship between disease and health. One important finding was that the occurrence of a chronic disease did not have only negative repercussions; some patients felt that there were advantages to being sick. Chronic disease resulted in a reworking of daily life. The patients developed a self-referential model of healing. Conclusion The distinct interpretations of the same disease offered by different patients served to yield a more complete understanding of the disease. People with SLE adjust their thinking about the disease based on personal feelings as well as experiences and pursue a dialogue on their illness based on the disease pattern unique to them. The meaning that disease had for the patients was not limited to negative connotations.
Abstract. Through the use of model IUIPC scale "privacy concerns", to respondent the WeChat users for the survey questionnaire, discussed privacy concerns, privacy concerns factors that influence the behavior of the interaction between privacy. Currently, WeChat users generally have a higher risk perception of privacy, but the respondent did not try some basis of privacy protection behavior. The dimension of IUIPC scale -"anxious", does effect on privacy concern without affecting the "degree of trust" and "awareness of privacy". In privacy concerns, the effective variables are "gender", "education" and "anxious".
BackgroundFew quantitative studies have explored the associations between nut consumption and better health outcomes among a national cohort of community-dwelling older Chinese people. Given the need for more evidence to support the health benefits of nuts among Chinese people, we investigated whether nut consumption was associated with subsequent 10-year mortality.MethodsWe analyzed data from the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey. The data on nut consumption at baseline were collected using a questionnaire through face-to-face interviews. The vital status and date of death were ascertained by a close family member or village doctor of the deceased participant during the follow-up survey. Cox analyses were performed to explore the association between nut consumption and mortality. Subgroup analyses by age group (<80 or ≥80 years), sex (male/female), activities of daily living (impaired or normal), and physical exercise (yes or no) were performed to assess whether the association between nut consumption and mortality differed across different populations.ResultsThe median survival time was 1,302 days for the 11,915 participants with complete information of survival time and nut consumption. The association between nut consumption and mortality was significant after the adjusting for significant factors in the univariate Cox analyses. The hazard ratios were lower in male participants, those who were <80 years old, and those who did not engage in physical exercise at baseline. The association between nut consumption and mortality was not significant among participants with normal activities of daily living.ConclusionThe association between nut consumption and mortality was not significant among participants who had normal activities of daily living but was significant among participants who had impaired activities of daily living. Including nuts in the diets cloud help to extend the lifespan in older Chinese people, especially those with impaired activities of daily living.
Abstract. This paper aims at exploring the relationship between the corporate performance and compensation gaps of executive-staff, by using the samples of Chinese firms from Shanghai Stock Exchange over the period of 2005-2015. We measured the corporate performance by computing the return on equity. And we also used the average compensation of the top three executives divided by the average of the ordinary employees to quantify the compensation gap. Ultimately, we conclude that there is a significant "inverse U" relationship between the compensation gap and the corporate performance.
