The pineapple leaf fiber is abundant in the tropics and subtropics regions in the world. The raw pineapple leaf fiber needs to be degummed before spinning. In this paper, the effect of alkali treatment on fiber property was studied. Compared to the fiber that not treated by alkali, fiber property improved by alkali treatment. At the same time, the influence of parameters of alkali treatment on fiber property was also discussed. With the concentration of sodium hydroxide solution increasing, the fineness, the tenacity, and the breaking elongation of pineapple fiber are all decreased. The effect of time on the fineness of degummed pineapple fiber is insignificant. With the increase of time, the tenacity of pineapple fiber is decreased slightly. However, the breaking elongation of pineapple fiber decreased at first, and then increased. As the temperature increase, the fineness of pineapple fiber increased then decreased. On the contrary, with the temperature increasing, the tenacity of pineapple fiber decreased firstly, and then increased. The breaking elongation of pineapple fiber decreased with the increase of temperature.
The application of urea peroxide in ramie oxidation degumming was discussed in this paper. And urea peroxide impact on the effect of ramie degumming was analyzed. The experimental results show that four parameters such as time, temperature, the amount of urea peroxide and the dosage of sodium hydroxide have influence on the fiber strength. At the same time, fiber strength with the increase of the amount of urea peroxide is reduced. The fiber strength and the dosage of urea peroxide basically appear linear characteristics. With the increase of time and the amount of sodium hydroxide, the single fiber strength of ramie increases firstly and then decreases. When the temperature is 95°C and the time is 3 hours, the fiber strength is the highest.
In this paper, the application of peroxide: sodium percarbonate and hydrogen peroxide, in the chemical degumming process of ramie was discussed. Two kinds of effects of peroxide degumming process were analyzed. On the basis of that, the fiber properties of degummed ramie of oxidation degumming process and the traditional chemical degumming process were compared. The result showed that two kinds of peroxide can be effectively applied to the chemical degumming process of ramie. In comparison with the traditional chemical degumming process, there are many advantages in the oxidation degumming process, for example, short flow, saving in energy, less environmental pollution, high single fiber strength, high whiteness, less fiber strand and so on.
