. -Semiconducting AgIO 4 is precipitated from an aqueous KIO4 solution by addition of AgNO3. It exhibits much higher activity than Ag3PO4 or Ag3AsO4 in photodegradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation. Band structure calculations reveal that the ultrahigh activity of AgIO 4 is attributed to the photosensitization mechanism of the photodegradation process.
