Thirty-four new 2-aryl-6-chloro-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2-ium bromides were synthesized, and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis. Antifungal activities against Alternaria alternate, Curvularia lunata and Valsa mali were evaluated by the mycelium linear growth rate method. SAR was discussed also. All compounds showed some activity against each of the fungi at 25 μg/mL. Compared to azoxystrobin, a commercial fungicide, 31 out of 34 test compounds showed higher inhibition rates against C. lunata and 10 were more effective against A. alternate and V. mali. Compounds 5-4, 5-2 and 5-34 showed the highest activity against A. alternate (EC50 = 10.3 μg/mL), C. lunata (EC50 = 4.6 μg/mL) and V. mali (EC50 = 3.9 μg/mL), respectively, superior to azoxystrobin (EC50 = 12.8, 71.9, 37.2 μg/mL). Compound 5-4 displayed good activities against each of the fungi with EC50 of 10.3, 4.7, and 18.0 μg/mL while 5-34 displayed excellent activities against V. mali (EC50 = 3.9 μg/mL) and C. lunata (EC50 = 5.8 μg/mL). The SAR showed that the type and position of substituents on the C-ring had significant effects on the activity. Generally, the presence of 2'-F, 4'-F or 2'-CH3 could significantly improve the activities, whereas OH, OMe, NO2 or CF3 groups decreased the activities. Thus, it was concluded that the present research provided a new series of 2-aryl-6-chloro-3,4-dihydroisoquinolin-2-iums with excellent antifungal potency, and the results were of importance for the structure optimization design, synthesis and development of more potent isoquinoline antifungal agents.

Large-size, single-crystalline and high-density PbI2 nanobelts are successfully synthesized by a two-step vapor deposition process at a slow heating rate.

Highly efficient and stable non‐noble metal electrocatalysts for hydrogen generation are desired for sustainable development of energy conversion and storage. Here, a facile low‐temperature phosphidation process is developed for phosphorus doping into molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets directly synthesized on carbon cloths to function as an integrated electrode for efficient hydrogen evolution reaction. The optimal phosphorus‐doped (3.3 at%) MoS2 nanosheets exhibit substantially lower overpotentials of 133 and 189 mV to drive the current densities of 20 and 100 mA cm‐2, respectively, as compared with undoped MoS2, and an impressively small Tafel slope of 67.0 mV dec−1. The excellent stability in acid media also makes the phosphorus‐doped MoS2 nanosheet catalysts promising candidates for hydrogen generation in practical applications.

Owing to the high mobility, narrow bandgap, strong spin-orbit coupling and large g-factor, Sbbased III-V nanowires (NWs) attracted significant interests in high speed electronics, longwavelength photodetectors and quantum superconductivity in the past decade. In this review, we aim to give an integrated summarization about the recent advances in binary as well as ternary Sb-based III-V NWs, starting from the fundamental properties, NWs growth mechanism, typical synthetic methods to their applications in transistors, photodetectors, and Majorana fermions detection. Up to now, famous NWs growth techniques of solid-source chemical vapor deposition (CVD), molecular beam epitaxy, metal organic vapor phase epitaxy and metal organic CVD etc have been adopted and developed for the controllable growth of Sb-based III-V NWs. Several parameters including heating temperature, III/V ratio of source materials, growth temperature, catalyst size and kinds, and growth substrate play important roles on the morphology, position, diameter distribution, growth orientation and crystal phase of Sb-based III-V NWs. Furthermore, we discuss the photoelectrical applications of Sb-based III-V NWs such as field-effecttransistors, tunnel diode, low-power inverter, and infrared detectors etc. Importantly, due to the strongest spin-orbit interaction and giant g-factor among all III-V semiconductors, InSb with the geometry of one-dimension NW is considered as the most promising candidate for the detection of Majorana fermions. In the end, we also summarize the main challenges remaining in the field and put forward some suggestions for the future development of Sb-based III-V NWs.

Asymmetric reductive amination (ARA) is one of the most promising methods for the synthesis of chiral amines. Herein we report our efforts on merging two ARA reactions into a single‐step transformation. Catalyzed by a complex formed from iridium and a steric hindered phosphoramidite, readily available and inexpensive aromatic ketones initially undergo the first ARA with ammonium acetate to afford primary amines, which serve as the amine sources for the second ARA, and finally provide the enantiopure C2‐symmetric secondary amine products. The developed process competently enables the successive coupling of inorganic and organic nitrogen sources with ketones in the same reaction system. The Brønsted acid additive plays multiple roles in this procedure: it accelerates the formation of imine intermediates, minimizes the inhibitory effect of N‐containing species on the iridium catalyst, and reduces the primary amine side products.

Four new (1–4), along with six known (5–10) dihydro-β-agarofuran sesquiterpene polyesters were isolated from the whole plants of Parnassia wightiana. The new compounds were structurally elucidated through spectroscopic analysis including UV (Ultraviolet Spectrum), IR (Infrared Spectrum), 1H-NMR (1Hydrogen-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), 13C-NMR (13Carbon-Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), DEPT (Distortionless Enhancement by Polarization Transfer), 1H-1H COSY (1H-1H Correlation Spectroscopy), HSQC (Heteronuclear Single Quantum Coherence), HMBC (Heteronuclear Multiple Bond Correlation), NOESY (Nuclear Overhauser Enhancement Spectroscopy) and HR-MS (High Resolution Mass Specttrum) and their absolute configurations were proposed by comparison of NOESY spectra and specific optical rotations with those of known compounds and biosynthesis grounds. Compound 2 is the first sesquiterpene alkaloid isolated from this plant. New compounds 1–4 exhibited some cytotoxic activities against NB4, MKN-45 and MCF-7 cells at 20 μM and of which 4 showed the highest activity against NB4 and MKN-45 cells with inhibition rates of 85.6% and 30.5%, respectively.

The title compound, C16H14Cl2O4S, was obtained by the reaction of eugenol (4-allyl-2-meth­oxy­phenol) and 3,4-dichloro­benzene­sulfonyl chloride. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings in the mol­ecule is 40.53 (4)°. No significantly short inter­molecular contacts are observed in the crystal structure.

The Cover Feature shows the superb catalytic activity of phosphorus doped MoS2 for electrochemical hydrogen generation. In their Full Paper, L. Bian, W. Gao et al. report a low temperature gas‐phase phosphidation process to achieve the controllable doping of phosphorus into MoS2 nanosheets supported on carbon cloth with the preservation of the morphology and crystal structure. By optimizing the phosphorus dopant content, the catalytic activity of the MoS2 nanosheet electrocatalysts is significantly improved, showing lower overpotential and Tafel slope as compared with undoped nanosheets. The excellent activity and stability make the optimal phosphorus doped MoS2 nanosheets good electrocatalysts for overall water splitting. More information can be found in the Full Paper by L.
