Objective To analyze the relationship between plasma metal elements, ApoE gene polymorphisms and the interaction between the two and impaired cognitive function in elderly population. Method A stratified sample was drawn according to the age of the study population, and 911 subjects were included. Baseline information and health indicators were obtained, and cognitive function status was assessed by health examination, a general questionnaire and Mini-Mental Status Examination. Plasma metal elements were measured, and SNP typing was performed. Binary logistic regression was used to analyze the factors influencing cognitive function status and the association between the SNP genetic pattern of the ApoE gene and cognitive function. Results The differences in gene frequencies and genotype frequencies of the ApoE rs7412 and rs7259620 genotype frequencies were significantly different between the cognitive impairment group and the control group (P < 0.05). Significant differences were found for the codominant model in rs7412-TT compared with the CC genotype (OR = 3.112 (1.159–8.359), P = 0.024) and rs7259620-AA compared with the GG genotype (OR = 1.588 (1.007–2.504), P = 0.047). Significant differences were found in the recessive models rs7412-TT compared with (CC + CT) (OR = 2.979 (1.112–7.978), P = 0.030), rs7259620-AA compared with (GG + GA), and rs405509-GG compared with (TT + TG) (OR = 1.548(1.022–2.344), P = 0.039) all of which increased the risk of developing cognitive impairment. The differences in plasma Fe, Cu, and Rb concentrations between the case and control groups were significant (P < 0.05). The regression results showed that the plasma Cd concentrations in the Q1 range was a protective factor for cognitive function compared with Q4 (0.510 (0.291–0.892), P = 0.018). Furthermore, there was a multiplicative interaction between the codominant and recessive models for the Q2 concentrations of Cd and the rs7259620 loci, and the difference was significant, indicating increased risk of developing cognitive impairment (codominant model OR = 3.577 (1.496–8.555), P = 0.004, recessive model OR = 3.505 (1.479–8.307), P = 0.004). There was also a multiplicative interaction between Cd and the recessive model at the rs405509 loci, and the difference was significant, indicating increased risk of developing cognitive impairment (OR = 3.169 (1.400-7.175), P = 0.006). Conclusion The ApoE rs7412, rs7259620 and rs405509 loci were associated with cognitive impairment in the elderly population, and there was an interaction between plasma metalloid Cd and the rs7259620 and rs405509 loci that increased the risk of cognitive impairment in the elderly population.
BACKGROUND In recent years, HIV infection among students has been a continuing concern around the world. A great number of articles have been published, however, comprehensive bibliometrics research is still lacking. OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study is to analyze studies on human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) / acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) among students globally from 1991 to 2021 and reveal the hot spots and frontiers through bibliometric analysis software. METHODS Studies on HIV/AIDS among students were retrieved from the web of science core collection (WoSCC). We used CiteSpace to generate networks of collaboration between countries, institutions, and authors and to reveal hot spots and frontiers of research. RESULTS A total of 426 articles were retrieved, and 420 studies were included for analysis after cleaning. In general, the number of publications has increased over the past three decades. The USA (164) was the core country, and the State University System of Florida (15) was the leading institution. Tung W was the most prolific author. Hot spots are mainly knowledge, attitude, risk behavior, prevention, and health education. In the future, for men who have sex with men (MSM), HIV/AIDS intervention and prevention will be the focus of attention. CONCLUSIONS The overall number of studies on HIV/AIDS among students tends to grow steadily. In the future, MSM will attract more attention, and HIV/AIDS intervention and prevention will be the focus of studies. However, academic communication still needs to be improved in this area. The current findings provide research hot spots and trends on HIV/AIDS among students and valuable information for researchers to identify new points with potential collaborators.
Background In recent years, HIV infection in students has been an ongoing concern worldwide. Objective This study aimed to detect and analyze emerging trends and collaborative networks in research on HIV/AIDS among students. Methods Research publications on HIV/AIDS among students from 1985 to 2022 were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection. A topic search was used for this study, and articles in English were included. CiteSpace was used to generate visual networks of countries/regions, institutions, references, and keywords. Citation analysis was used to discover milestones in the field and trace the roots of the knowledge base. Keyword analysis was used to detect research hotspots and predict future trends. Results A total of 2726 publications met the inclusion criteria. Over the past 38 years, the number of publications annually has been on the rise overall. The United States had the highest number of publications (n=1303) and the highest centrality (0.91). The University of California system was the core institution. The main target population of studies on HIV/AIDS among students were medical and university students. These studies focused on students’ knowledge, attitudes, risk behaviors, and education about HIV/AIDS. The recent bursting keywords (gay, sexual health, adherence, barriers, mental health, HIV testing, stigma, and antiretroviral therapy) revealed research trends and public interest on this topic. Conclusions This study identified countries/regions and institutions contributing to the research area of HIV/AIDS among students and revealed research hotspots and emerging trends. The field of research on HIV/AIDS among students was growing rapidly. The United States was at the center, and the University of California system was the core institution. However, academic collaboration should be strengthened. Future research may focus on exploring gay students, sexual health, adherence, barriers, mental health, HIV testing, stigma, and antiretroviral therapy.
Microplastics, as a currently emerging pollutant, are gaining increasing attention from researchers in various fields. The purpose of this study is to summarize research development on microplastics in the field of neurotoxicity using bibliometric tools and visualization methods and to identify current research hotspots. The Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) was searched under the topics of “microplastics” and “neurotoxicity.” A total of 33 published articles were obtained by exclusion and analyzed using CiteSpace (V6.1.R2). It was found that microplastic neurotoxicity research is currently on the rise, with the most research results being published in China, the most collaboration occurring between Italy and other countries, and the least collaboration occurring between authors. The focus and hotspots of future research on the neurotoxicity of microplastics may revolve around “accumulation” and “integrated biomarker response.” These findings demonstrate the trends and frontiers in the field of microplastic neurotoxicity research and provide valuable information for subsequent research directions and potential collaborations.
