Writing skill is an essential requirement to lifelong learner success, yet the way teachers provide feedback for their students on writing is quite challenging. One of the new trends in writing skill instruction is Self Assessment. Self-assessment methods in writing instruction present meaningful ways to promote student writing achievement through reflection and meta-cognition during the writing process. This paper describes the findings of an investigation on using self assessment in EFL writing classroom. For the purpose of conducting this research, 48 Iranian upper intermediate students, all male and with age range of 20 to 23, were chosen to participate in this investigation. These participants were divided into two equal groups: an experimental group (N=24) who worked on their writings through self assessment and a control group (N=24) who worked on their writings based on the traditional ways. It was found that participants in the experimental group significantly improved their writing proficiency means score, whereas improvement in the control group was not significant. The results confirm that self assessment is successful with EFL students.
When discussing the current state of art with regard to the use of new technologies in foreign and second language learning one thing is blinking sharply: Simulation Games. Simulator games have prepared a great pedagogical context for young sailors and mariners. The importance of creating pedegugical context for sailors and mariners to learn English as a second or foreign language is the essence of this study. Simulation games show potential not just for engaging and entertaining users, but also in promoting language learning. In this research we survey the effect of simulation Games on sailor and mariners' English vocabulary and pronunciation learning of Khoramshahr Navy University. The results clearly showed that these kinds of games have a significant impact of learners, especially when they learn English as ESP like the sailors and mariners.
Intellectual capital for companies, particularly manufacturing firms in the third millennium can be considered as a competitive advantage. The purpose of the research is to examine the role of innovation capital in the creation of value for business organizations. Intellectual capital (IC) disclosure has been receiving an increasing amount of attention among the companies around the world such as Australian companies, Italian companies and others. This is due to the new economy driven which is knowledge-based economy where value creation become one of the crucial issues in the world and tends to be based on intangible rather than tangible assets. In this study, a questionnaire was distributed among manufacturing companies have tried to collect statistical information . Questionnaire was divided between manufacturing firms and financial operations managers.The result shows that a company's IC in general has a The significant positive impact on its financial and market performance.
Writing is considered as an activity which is done individually and the role of thumb for its feedback is thought to be provided by teachers and instructors. Although there has been a growing body of research on using pair and small group activities in second or foreign language learning in relation to oral skill (e.g. Speaking), on writing there are only a few well-documented researches. This research describes a study exploring the effect of collaborative writing on EFL student's grammatical accuracy in their writing. A total of 50 Iranian Advanced students of English all male and with the age range of 20 to 24 participated in this study. The subjects were engaged in tasks in which they worked on each other's writing and gave feedback on grammatical points to each other. Obtaining corrective feedback from their fellows, enabled students to pinpoint their grammatical errors better and subsequently improve their grammatical accuracy in their upcoming writings. The results suggest that collaborative writing (CW) is beneficial in allowing EFL learners to make gain in grammatical accuracy.
With the turn of the century, Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL) has got the center of attention in second and foreign language learning (ESL/EFL). Triggering with the technology of the day, Computer-Assisted Language Learning was integrated with language skills, speaking, listening, writing, and reading to serve as the medium of teaching and learning in L2 classrooms. This paper is an investigation of the effect of integrating CALL materials in L2 reading comprehension classrooms. The study was conducted in two classes each included 30 students attending a course on English reading comprehension at the Azad University in Qazvin, Iran. The comparison between the experimental and the control group pinpoint that CALL materials improve reading comprehension skill among EFL low advanced students. It was also revealed that most students have positive attitude toward CALL. The results suggests that using CALL materials both in teaching and learning reading comprehension of L2 is beneficial in allowing learners to make improvements in reading comprehension.
