In this study, researchers aimed to determine exercise habits, physical activity (PA) levels and anxiety levels of postmenopausal women (PMw) during the self-quarantine period of the COVID-19 pandemic. 104 PMw (59.00 ± 6.61 years old) participated in the study. It was found that PMw who had exercise habits before the pandemic period had higher PA levels, and the women with high anxiety levels during the pandemic had lower PA levels (p < .05). Anxiety levels and PA were negatively associated with each other. Numbers of grandchildren also affected the PA and anxiety levels of the PMw negatively. Women should be encouraged to initiate or maintain PA levels in all circumstances.
Background: This study aims to compare physical fitness, physical activity, the psychosocial state and the quality of life of adolescents who have disabled siblings with the adolescents who have healthy siblings.Material and methods: 100 adolescents were involved. The Body Mass Index, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance were measured to determine physical fitness. The FELS Physical Activity Questionnaire, the Depression Scale(CES-DC) and the 87-item Child Health Questionnaire(CHQ) were used to determine the level of their physical activity, depression status and the level of quality of life.
Results:Only Vertical Jumping level among physical fitness parameters was found to be different between the groups (p < 0.05). Leisure Time, Occupation and Total Index points of the FELS of adolescents who had disabled siblings were statistically lower than of adolescents who had healthy siblings (p < 0.05). Depression scores of the study group were statistically higher than the control group (p < 0.05). Except the Family Cohesion subscale, CHQ scores were similar in both groups (p > 0.05).
Conclusions:A physically disabled child negatively affects the physical activity level and psychology of healthy siblings rather than their physical fitness.
Background: The Covid-19 pandemic has influenced all people’s lives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of physical activity and anxiety of university students during the pandemic, and then determine some associated factors with anxiety of these young adults.. Material and methods: A web-based questionnaire was sent to the participants. International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) were used to collect data about the levels of their physical activity and anxiety. Results: 247 participants (females = 151, males = 96) of the Faculty of Health Sciences whose mean ages were 21.46 ±2.1 years old completed the study questions in 24 hours. The participants performed light physical activity according to the IPAQ-SF and had mild anxiety according to the BAI. Their gender, smoking status, and opinions on online education were found to be effective on the anxiety level (p < 0.05). Conclusions: This paper indicated some important factors for the young adults who tried to continue their education in a very different way for a few weeks. Since this is not online education like past, both health professionals and university managements should consider the harms and risks of this new educational style on physical and psychological health of students before the upcoming semesters.
Aim: This study investigated the effects of exercises conducted with a Pilates ball on the motor skills of preschool children. Methods: 62 preschool children were randomly divided into two groups: an intervention group (IG) (n = 30) and a control group (CG) (n = 32). Exercises with a Pilates ball were practiced in IG. The One Leg Standing test, Functional Reach test, Ruler Drop test and Timed-Up and Go test were the outcome measures. Results: Static balance performance and dual-task performance were found to be significantly improved in the intragroup and intergroup comparisons, favoring the IG (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The exercises carried out in this study were found to be effective on static balance and dual-task performance. The study can guide an exercise program for the preschool age group. Students suddenly came across with a new education system due to pandemic. Health education needs practices including manual skills so education method is totally affected in Faculties of Health Sciences. The aim of this study is to examine the ergonomic suitability of the studying posture and health-related quality of life of the students during the COVID-19 pandemic. Faculties of Health Sciences of the Universities in Northern Cyprus, a cross-sectional study design Ergonomic designs were evaluated from five pictures and a total score was obtained. Nottingham Health Profile was used to determine the quality of life during this new education version. Only 12.8% of the students used a great posture and some parameters of quality of life were found different between female and males (p<0.05). 73.0% of the students who received online education had an increase in the level of musculoskeletal pain during the pandemic. The students stated that they have pain in the shoulder area with almost 30%. Very few students perceived adequate postures during online lectures. Some gender related differences were found in quality of life. The study will guide managements of universities and health professionals in terms of workload of online health education and its risks to musculoskeletal system of young population.
Aim: To compare the effects of group exercises under physiotherapist control and basketball program on the quality of life of obese children. Methods: 45 obese children aged 10 years were randomly included to the physiotherapy (n = 14), basketball (n: 15), and control group (n: 16). The children were assessed before and after 12-week study duration. The Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL) was used to determine and compare their quality of life (QoL). Results: No difference was found when the subheadings of the PedsQL were compared among the groups (p > 0.05). When the changes were investigated within the groups, only significant increase was determined in the physical and emotional subheadings of the physiotherapy group (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Although no change was determined in the quality of life, physiotherapy group exercise was found to be more successful to affect physical and emotional status of obese children.
