The objective of this study was to find out what people in the community knew about infertility, as well as their attitudes and opinions regarding it. This cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted between November 2019 and April 2020 with 711 people (511 females and 200 males). To collect the study data, the researchers used the "Descriptive Information Form" and the "Attitude towards Infertility Scale" (ATIS).The majority of the participants stated that it was important to have a child, 28.4% stated that they were worried about having a child in the future. It was determined that 22.9% of the participants defined infertility as not having a child in less than one year, and 82.4% of them thought that infertility was a treatable problem. The mean score of ATIS was found to be 48.69±6.8. There was a significant difference between The ATIS score and age, marital status, and the number of live children. The number of children desired and the priority placed on having children were found to have a weak negative correlation. It was discovered as a result of the research that there was a favorable attitude regarding infertility. Furthermore, it was discovered that having a child was significant and that as the value placed on having a child increased, so did the negative attitude toward infertility.
Background: Mothers face social and cultural obstacles when breastfeeding in public, which might interrupt the breastfeeding process. Aims: This study evaluated the attitudes and practices of Turkish women around breastfeeding in public. Methods: This cross-sectional and descriptive study was carried out in a university hospital with 200 new postnatal mothers and their 200 accompanying female relatives. Data were obtained by interview form and the Infant Feeding Attitude Scale (IIFAS). Results: Participants mostly believed that it was their right to breastfeed in public; however, almost half thought this would be met negatively by society. 56.5% of the mothers with previous children and 37.2% of their relatives experienced breastfeeding in public. The acceptance of breastfeeding in public increased when the breast was covered and when a private space was provided. The mean total IIFAS score was 61.53 (6.19) in mothers and 60.65 (6.69) in relatives. According to IIFAS, mothers (92.0%) and their relatives (89.5%) had a neutral stance towards breastfeeding. IIFAS scores were affected by age, education, working status, and opinions regarding breastfeeding in public. IIFAS score was significantly higher in women who had experienced breastfeeding in public. Conclusion: Although women have information about the importance and rights of breastfeeding in public, their breastfeeding experiences in public are limited because of cultural concerns and lack of suitable environments. Infant feeding attitudes are related to sociodemographic characteristics and breastfeeding experiences in public. Media support, availability of breastfeeding rooms, and education of supporting relatives can help raise awareness and eliminate negative perceptions.
Anah tar Ke li me ler: Bütünleyici tamamlayıcı ve alternatif tıp; tamamlayıcı tıp yaklaşımları; kadın sağlığı kültürü; kültürlerarası hemşirelik ABS TRACT Objective:The study was planned in a comparative descriptive design to determine the effect of taking the women's health and culture course on the knowledge levels and attitudes of nursing students about holistic complementary and alternative medicine methods towards women's health.
