Introducción: La oclusión dentaria se define como el contacto adecuado de las superficies incisales y oclusales entre las piezassuperiores e inferiores. Al ser alterada ocasiona un desorden oclusal denominado “maloclusión”, provocando irregularidadestanto estéticas como funcionales que, considerando la gravedad, en un tiempo a corto y/o largo plazo provocaríacomplicaciones en la articulación temporomandibular. Objetivo: Determinar qué tipo de maloclusión tiene mayor tendenciaa desarrollar disfunción temporomandibular en la Clínica UCSG – B 2018. Materiales y Métodos: Se realizó un estudio clínicode tipo transversal de diseño descriptivo analítico. Se trabajó con una muestra de 90 alumnos que asistían a la Clínica deOclusión I y II de la UCSG en el período B-2018. Mediante previos procesos de bioseguridad, se realizó un examen clínicointraoral a los pacientes en donde se observaron las siguientes variables: maloclusión, relación interincisal, valoracióndiagnóstica de ATM y severidad de TTM. Resultados: De acuerdo a la severidad de los trastornos temporomandibulares, 44pacientes presentaron disfunción leve en un 48,89%, 17 disfunción moderada en un 18,89% y 1 disfunción severa en un1,11%. La Clase III tiene mayor tendencia a desarrollar trastornos temporomandibulares con un 47,06% (leve), 38,64%(moderada), seguido de la Clase II en un 29,41% (leve), 40,91% (moderada). Conclusión: Se puede concluir que lamaloclusión que tiende a desarrollar con mayor frecuencia trastornos temporomandibulares fue la Clase III de Angle seguidode la Clase II, presentando un grado de disfunción leve que fue notable en el sexo femenino.
Introducción: La succión, reflejo congénito y natural del niño es una de las primeras actividades fisiológicas del ser humanoy corresponde una necesidad básica del organismo como es la alimentación. Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de hábitosnocivos en pacientes con lactancia materna y de biberón. Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio observacionaldescriptiva transversal. Examinamos 200 pacientes pediátricos entre 4 a 10 años que fueron atendidos en las Clínicas integralde niños, odontopediatría II y ortodoncia III de la UCSG, realizando una encuesta al representante del niño, se observóvariables como edad, género, tipo y tiempo de lactancia, presencia de hábitos nocivos, signos y síntomas que presentandurante el día y la noche, como uso de biberón, rugosidades en los dedos, labios resecos, ronquidos y babeos nocturnos, entreotros. Resultados 200 pacientes fueron evaluados, abarcando el 55% con 110 de sexo femenino, y 45% con 90 pacientes desexo masculino. Respecto al hábito nocivo más frecuente los valores arrojados indican 21% uso de biberón, respiración bucaly succión digital ambos 15%, y deglución atípica 10%. La frecuencia de hábitos nocivos por género, fue mayor en el sexofemenino con el 54% representando 130 pacientes. Discusión: Según estudios realizados, confirma la relación directa, que lalactancia materna exclusiva previene la aparición de hábitos nocivos, y que el niño que no tuvo lactancia materna exclusivay usó el biberón, presentará mayor predisposición en tener el uso de biberón como hábito nocivo. Conclusión Sí existe unaasociación entre la lactancia artificial con la aparición y desarrollo de hábitos nocivos. Por esto se debe considerar la lactanciamaterna un factor preventivo en la aparición de estos.
