Vincular as relações e interações sociais humanas com os espaços públicos urbanos em intervenções que fomentem a vivência da cidade, tem (re) despertado a prática social em casos de sucesso aplicados em diversos países, pois promovem o bem estar e segurança aliados a um sentimento de pertencimento ao lugar. Este artigo explora a fundamentação teórica e diretrizes projetuais que nortearam a tomada de decisões para o processo de desenvolvimento do projeto de intervenção da Rua dos Arcos, na cidade de Frederico Westphalen, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Trata-se de uma ação primária, na busca de reestabelecer o caminhar como prática social de apropriação, e a aplicação da cartografia urbana sensível a criação de significado espacial, de lugar.Palavras-chave: cidades vivas, rua, pertencimento, pessoas, prática social.
