Abstract-The growing population of elderly people especially in developed countries motivates the researchers to develop healthcare systems to ensure the safety of elderly people at home. On the other hand, mobile robots can provide an efficient solution to healthcare problem. Moreover, using new technologies such as the Kinect sensor with robotics could bring new ways to build intelligent systems that could use to monitor the elderly people, and raise an alarm in case of dangerous events, such as falling down, are detected. Falls and their consequences are a major risk especially for elderly people who live alone where immediate assistance is needed. In this work, the Kinect sensor is used to introduce a mobile robot system to follow a person and detect when the target person has fallen. In addition, the mobile robot is provided with a cell phone that is used to send an SMS message notification and make an emergency call when a fall is detected.
A chatbot is a computer program which is designed to interact with users and answer questions. Nowadays, chatbots are one of the most common systems that are used in many fields and by different companies to achieve different tasks. Cloud computing is gaining increasing interest. A myriad of fields and applications have been developed based on cloud computing. In this paper, a college chatbot was developed and implemented to assist students to interact with their college and ask questions related to faculty, activities, exams, admission, amongst other tasks. Text similarity algorithms were adopted to achieve the proposed system. More specifically, cosine similarity and jaccard similarity algorithms were used to find the closest question in the dataset. Firebase real-time database, which is one of the Google cloud services, was used as a connector channel between users and the chatbot server. Experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of cosine similarity and jaccard similarity methods, and to compare the results of both. In addition, real-time database was also evaluated as a chatbot connecter channel.
Surveillance camera systems have been widely used in homes, businesses and other places of work. These systems with its all capabilities and features provide protection to people who uses them. In this work, a home security alarm system was designed and implemented based on the Microsoft Kinect sensor. The introduced system can detect intrusion and respond to it in real-time. If the intrusion is detected, the system sends SMS as a notification to the authorized user. Moreover, as soon as the intrusion is detected, pictures will be taken using the RGB camera of the Kinect. These pictures will be sent to the authorized user via email, and saved on the local drive. Simultaneously, the proposed system emits a loud sound to frighten away intruders. The proposed system could be used in homes, offices, warehouses, banks, hospitals, etc..
The Iraqi political arena has witnessed a dramatic change after the year of 2003. It moved from the dominated republican system to a democratic system. This movement in the political system has affected the situation in Iraq in terms of economic, education, industrial, trading, to mention a few. This paper analyses the Iraqi parliament representatives' affiliations in terms of their coalitions they formed in the elections. Moreover, this study tries enabling us to deeply understand how the Iraqi parliament representatives are connected to each other and the relations among them. It also provides us with information on how different provinces adopted different coalitions regardless their religion and other tendencies. Several political networks were generated and visualized based on the concepts of complex networks. Each network represents a particular political aspect of the current Iraqi parliament. This study also reveals a new trend of forming coalitions in Iraq and the strategy followed by the representatives in attaching to coalitions. Finally, we believe this is the first kind of work that uses this approach of analysis in understanding the trend of Iraqi politicians.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
