Background &Objectives: The hemodialysis effectiveness is depended on adherence to the therapeutic regimen recommendations. Every aberration from the therapeutic regimens, results to the severe clinical outcomes. Therefore, finding an effective teaching method is essential. The aim of this study was to assess the impact of training through text messaging via cell phones on the compliance of therapeutic regimens by the hemodialysis patients. Materials and Methods: In this before and after quasi-experimental study, thirty hemodialysis patients had been selected through Simple Random Sampling method who were referred to Emam Ali Hospital of Bojnurd in 2016. One therapeutic regimen recommendation text message was sent for 4 weeks (28 Persian text messages per day). Data about the amount of serum phosphorus and potassium, interdialytic weight gain, and patient's absence in the sessions were collected before and after sending messages. Statistical tests such as paired t-test were performed using the SPSS v 20. Results: There were significant differences in compliance of diet (p=0.002), medication regimen (p=0.003), and regular attendance at dialysis sessions (p=0.000) before and after training by text messaging via cell phones. There wasn't any significant difference between fluid limitation compliance before and after training by text messaging via cell phones (p=0.759). Conclusion: Regarding the effectiveness of text messaging and availability of this method for the majority of patients, planning for using this training method can be beneficial for the education of patients.
Background:Maintaining of oral hygiene has been known as one of the basic tasks of nurses working at intensive care unit. This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of chlorhexidine solution with toothbrush in prevention of oral lesions or ulcers in the different parts of the mouth. Methods:In this clinical trial study, research Society included patients hospitalized with endotracheal tube since the arrival time in intensive care unit. In this study, 30 patients were selected with target-based approach and equally divided into two groups through the permutation blocking method for oral care toothbrush and toothpaste and using chlorhexidine and swab. The modified form of Beck Oral Assessment Scale (BOAS) and MPS were used to obtain needed information. Data were analyzed by means of R software (version 3.0.2) and also multiple logistic regressions in the confidence level of 95%.Results:This study indicated an association between using toothbrush and the oral health level (OR: 1.52). In different parts of the mouth, there was no difference between two groups in prevention of lesions in gums, lips and tongue while, this was significant in relation to plaque, mucus and teeth with an odd ratio of 3.94 for teeth and 2.75 for mucus. In comparison, there was an association between implying chlorhexidine and saliva health level. (OR: 2.046).Conclusion:This survey showed that using toothbrush has a noticeable impact on declining oral lesions in varied parts of the mouth.
Introduction: Elderly people often have complex and unknown needs but we have not yet fully recognized them in accordance with international standards in our country. Therefore, the present study attempts to more accurately identify the types of fulfilled or unmet needs related to the health of the elderly in Sabzevar city using valid and specialized tools. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was performed on 240 elderly people over 60 years old without any cognitive problems in Sabzevar city in 2019. They were selected by Stratified sampling from population areas of 6 health centers in the city. Data were collected by a questionnaire consisting of two parts demographic and need assessment based on Cambrol standardized instrument (CANE) and were analyzed by Stata v.14 and statistical methods. Results: The mean age of the study units was 68/1 ± 7/2. Based on the main findings of the study, the elderly with unmet needs ranked first in terms of benefits (23%), physical health (16%), medicine (15%), money / budget (14%), sight / hearing (10%), Daily activities (9.5%), nutrition (9%), mobility (9%), housekeeping (8%), caring for another (6%), mental comfort (5%) and They have savings (5%). On the other hand, the most fulfilled needs were medication (39%), physical illness (35%) and visual and hearing improvement (28%). Conclusions: The results of the present study showed that the most unmet needs of the elderly were physical and then social needs and environmental needs were the least priority for them.
Objectives Chronic pain is one of the major health issues during older age. Aromatherapy is a method to reduce such pain. The present study investigated the effects of inhaling rose extract on chronic musculoskeletal pain in elderly. Methods & Materials The clinical trial consisted of 60 elderly individuals with chronic musculoskeletal pain, who were members of the retirement centers of Sabzevar city in 1395. The subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: intervention (31 people) and control (29 people). In the intervention group, the pain was measured using a McGill Pain Questionnaire. Before the intervention, interviews were conducted once a week on Thursdays by telephone for both groups. In the intervention group, the rose extract was inhaled using a linen handkerchief with a three-drop dip of the extract on it daily for three weeks. In the control group, sweet almond oil was used similarly. Data were analyzed using SPSS. Results The present study showed that the inhalation of Rose extract did not affect the sensory and emotional aspect of pain in individuals; however, a statistically significant difference was noted in the sensory aspect between men and women (P<0.05) but not in the emotional dimension. Conclusion The present study showed that the inhalation of rose extract reduces the sensory dimension of chronic pain between men and women. Although additional investigation is imperative, these findings can be used for effective pain management interventions.
