In this paper, ductile b-Ti was selected to toughen brittle high damping intermetallic compound Ti 3 Sn. An in situ Ti 3 Sn/b-Ti composite with a composition of Ti 77 Mo 3 Sn 20 was prepared by arc melting. The composite simultaneously exhibited high yield strength (500 MPa), large plasticity (35%) and high damping capacity (tan d.0?06). In situ synchrotron high energy X-ray diffraction compression testing revealed that the b-Ti mainly accounts for the plasticity, while Ti 3 Sn provided the strength of the composite.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
