Phytotechnical behavior of 'Prata-Anã' banana and progeny hybridsAbstract -The objective of this work was to evaluate the phytotechnical behavior of 'Prata-Anã' banana and four progeny hybrids, during two production cycles, in the Perímetro Irrigado do Estreito, southwest of Bahia state, Brazil. The experimental design was completely randomized with fi ve treatments: cultivar 'Prata-Anã' and the hybrids Fhia-01 (BRS Fhia Maravilha), BRS Fhia-18, Fhia 18 and PA42-44, with ten replicates. Phenotypic vegetative descriptors, cycle length and yield were measured. Increases occurred between cycles for: plant height, pseudostem perimeter, number of hands and fruits, and yield. The Fhia-18 hybrid showed greater size and pseudostem perimeter, and 'Prata-Anã' had the smallest, (with maintenance of this character in the PA42-44). The hybrids were similar in the number of suckers produced. BRS Fhia-18, PA42-44 and Fhia-1 were early for harvest and had greater fruit length than 'Prata-Anã'. Fhia-18 produced more fruit and PA42-44 had fewer hands compared to the parental cultivar. BRS Fhia-18, Fhia-18 and Fhia-1 are more productive than the parental cultivar. 'Prata-Anã' is more susceptible to yellow sigatoka, while PA42-44 is resistant, with greater retention of leaves at harvest; however, both have similar yields.
An understanding of the progression of a disease is important in the adoption of control strategies as well as the evaluation of their efficacies. Temporal analysis is especially useful because it integrates the evolution of the interaction between the components of the pathosystem, as expressed by the accumulated data on the incidence and severity of disease and depicted by the disease progression curve. Within a given patho‐system, the dispersed airborne spores are important components in the progress of plant disease epidemics. Our aims were to evaluate the temporal dynamics of yellow Sigatoka in a banana plantation located in Coronel Pacheco, MG, Brazil, and to assess the aerobiology of Mycosphaerella musicola spores throughout the year. During the rainy season, we observed intense disease progression concomitant with high rates of leaf emission, which caused rapid reversal of the severity peaks after the maximum rates were reached. The yellow Sigatoka progress curve showed two peaks of extreme severity. The first, which occurred during the rainy season, was predominantly caused by a high concentration of conidia. The second, which occurred during the dry season, was predominantly caused by a high concentration of ascospores in the air. The ascospore concentrations were correlated with the severity of the disease 29 days later, indicating the average latency period of the disease in that region. The patterns of the severity curves for both peaks fit the monomolecular model, and the progression rates were higher during the rainy season than the dry season. The spore concentrations were the same at the two evaluated heights. In all evaluations, it was observed a higher concentration of ascospores than of conidia, with the greatest ascospore concentrations occurring during the early hours of the day and the greatest conidia concentrations occurring later, after the dew has dropped from the leaves.
ABSTRACT Expression of resistance of banana varieties to yellow SigatokaYellow Sigatoka, caused by Mycosphaerella musicola / Pseudocercospora musae continues to be a great problem for the banana (Musa spp.) crop in Brazil, with the causal agent presenting high pathogenic variability among the isolates of the pathogen. The objective of this work was to characterize the reaction type that has been observed among the resistant varieties. The researches have been carried out under greenhouse conditions with artificial inoculation of different isolates of M. musicola on a group of banana varieties, composed by Pacovan, Prata Anã, Thap Maeo, Caipira, Grand Naine, Terra and Pioneira. In inoculations on those varieties, involving about 38 isolates M. musicola, until now only the Terra variety, had its resistance mechanism overcome by some of the isolates. Some of these isolates were also inoculated on other genotypes not included in this relationship, such as: JV03-15, PV03-44, FHIA-01 and FHIA-18. Observing the reactions of the varieties Caipira, Thap Maeo, Pioneira, Terra, JV03-15 and PV03-44, varieties which are resistant to most of the isolates, a very similar behavior is noticed. All of them showed a reaction to powdered inoculation by the formation of barely perceptible lesions shaped like points or grooves. This reaction is similar to a hypersensitive reaction with the formation of local lesions of late visualization. The phenotypes have the characteristics of a qualitative answer, involving a hipersensibility ...
