What characteristics have the sex, age, and cancer types etc. of the cancer pain patients using narcotic drugs? Although there are still no related reports, these should closely related with the incidence of cancer types and the cancer pain degree [3, 4] .Our hospital, Gansu Province Tumour Hospital, China, as a provincial tumor hospital, mainly treat the patients throughout Gansu province, China, and the main of them come from Lanzhou and its surrounding areas. Our Hospital equip manifold narcotic drugs, and have played a larger role in Lanzhou city and its surrounding areas. So the information of 6891 cancer pain cases from our hospital may represent the interrelated data of the area's cancer patients. Statistic analysis of the data may be helped to gain more information and characteristics of those patients in the area.
Materials and methodsThe information of cancer pain patients who were treated with narcotic drugs in our hospital during 2002-2007 were collected (excluding narcotic drugs during the operation). We input them in a designed EXCEL table which contained the patient's name, age, sex, cancer-species, drug's name and dosage etc. We total input 18702 items, then we amalgamated those items which had the same name, sex and cancer-species etc. In the end, we total got the information of 6891 cases, and the information were statistically analyzed.
Results
Gender dataThe gender data of the 6891 cases were shown in Table 1. The male number was 4164 which occupied 60.44% of the total cases and the female number was 2727 occupied 39.56% of the total cases.
Age dataThe age data of the 6891 cases were also shown in Table 1. We assorted the patients' age into 4 groups: group of < 20 years, group of ≥ 20 years and < 40 years, group of ≥ 40 years and < 60 years, and group of > 60 years. The results were that the patients of above 40 years occupied 87.36% of all 6891 cases, among them the males occupied 89.12% of all 6891 male cases and the females occupied 84.60%.
