In this study, visual representations are created in order to analyze different aspects of scientific collaboration at the international level. The main objective is to identify the international facet of research by following the flow of knowledge as expressed by the number of scientific publications, and then establishes the main geographical axes of output, showing the interrelationships of the domain, the intensity of these relations, and how the different types of collaboration are reflected in terms of visibility. Thus, the methodology has a twofold application, allowing us to detect significant differences that help characterize patterns of behaviour of a geographical system of output, along with the generation of representations that serve as interfaces for domain analysis and information retrieval.

Despite the increasing number of data visualization authoring systems in recent years, it remains a challenge to simultaneously achieve high expressive power and ease of use in a single tool. In this paper we present SCImago Graphica, a no-code tool which allows the creation of complex visualizations by simple drag-and-drop interactions. Users bind the data variables to the different encoding channels, and specify the settings of each binding, from which the tool generates the interactive graphical display. Due to its efficiency of use, SCImago Graphica is not only suitable for visually communicating data, but also for exploratory data analysis. We evaluate the expressiveness and ease of use of SCImago Graphica through various examples of chart construction and a catalog of visualizations. The results show that SCImago Graphica makes it possible to create a wide variety of data visualizations quickly and easily.

Context is a determining factor in language and plays a decisive role in polysemic words. Several psycholinguistically motivated algorithms have been proposed to emulate human management of context, under the assumption that the value of a word is evanescent and takes on meaning only in interaction with other structures. The predication algorithm (Kintsch, 2001), for example, uses a vector representation of the words produced by LSA (Latent Semantic Analysis) to dynamically simulate the comprehension of predications and even of predicative metaphors. The objective of this study was to predict some unwanted effects that could be present in vector-space models when extracting different meanings of a polysemic word (predominant meaning inundation, lack of precision, and low-level definition), and propose ideas based on the predication algorithm for avoiding them. Our first step was to visualize such unwanted phenomena and also the effect of solutions. We use different methods to extract the meanings for a polysemic word (without context, vector sum, and predication algorithm). Our second step was to conduct an analysis of variance to compare such methods and measure the impact of potential solutions. Results support the idea that a human-based computational algorithm like the predication algorithm can take into account features that ensure more accurate representations of the structures we seek to extract. Theoretical assumptions and their repercussions are discussed.

Repositories are important infrastructures which allow the dissemination of large collections of digital resources hosted in museums, libraries, academic institutions or specialized documentation centers. However, there are nowadays several limitations associated with irrelevant search results based on a knowledge area. Some studies have highlighted the major role of information visualization strategies based on Simple Knowledge Organization Systems (SKOS) so as to mitigate such difficulties. The main goal of this article is to present recommendations using information visualization based on SKOS for the development of navigational search interfaces in digital repositories focused on learning process. We use card sorting as methodology in order to obtain qualitative results in our study. As preliminary results we found that taxonomies in visual search engines improve the access to large collections of digital resources based on SKOS, but it depends on the design of taxonomy concepts defined in digital repositories. Finally, it is recommended that the creators of repositories focus their efforts on define levels of relationship and partnership between digital resources using knowledge representation structures like thesauri or ontologies; work with usable visualization interfaces like tree, radial or icicle; and link relevant metadata fields with the navigation structure.

A taxonomic proposal based on dimensions and items that reflects the preferences in Data Science visualizations for domain users in tourism and road transport is presented. The needs transmitted by domain users are grouped into dimensions esthetics, ecosystem dominance, and interaction. For each item, the bibliographic review necessary to align user and ICT's (Information and Communications Technology) concerns is carried out. In this proposal, the main conclusion focuses on the need for the visualization environments in Data Sciences to be designed and integrated for each domain, allowing users to interact transparently by guiding their tasks.
