Abstract-Social and economic changes that have taken place in the country in recent years make new demands on specialists in various fields of knowledge, and economists are no exception. The English language study plays a major role in forming professional qualities of future economists. The implementation of the tasks requires the use of various methods in teaching English to students of economic departments, but the main methodological innovations today involve the use of interactive teaching methods. The article describes practical examples of using the most popular interactive teaching methods (role play, brainstorming, case study, discussion) at the English language classes with students of economic departments. The authors come to the conclusion that the use of interactive methods in teaching a foreign language to future economists helps to organize an active interaction of all participants of the communication process which results in the exchange of professional information in a foreign language and the acquisition of professional qualities and practical skills of business communication.
The article is devoted to the means expressing the concept of space in the Russian and English languages; the concept of space is viewed with concern to its national and cultural peculiarities of perception. The focus of the issue is the semantic structure of the lexical units with the meaning of extension on the horizontal axis in the Russian and English languages (далеко, близко, far, close and others). The semantic structure of the analyzed lexical units is considered in terms of a hierarchy of categorical, integral and differential semes. The categorical seme 'spatial extension' is realized through integral semes 'nature of extension' and 'nature of orientation' which are represented by set of differential semes. The article analyzes the results of existing researches in this area. The analysis of factual material allows to draw conclusions about analyzed problem and to compare these results with the work of predecessors. The analysis of semantics shows that concept of extension on the horizontal axis has much in common both in the Russian and English languages but for the Russian and English native speakers there is certain ethnic differentiation typical of national linguocultures as far as perception of space is concerned within the aforementioned lexical systems. National peculiarities of space perception make themselves evident in the fact that representatives of the Russian linguoculture have «unrestricted» space perception, but for the British one it is important to provide clear borders and the structure of space.
The research aims to substantiate the importance of interactive teaching methods in modern education at higher education institutions using the example of foreign language classes. The paper addresses the use of practical conference lessons as a form of teaching in the educational space of a university. The work gives a brief overview of interactive methods of teaching a foreign language at a university, determines the specificity of organising a conference lesson, describes the stages of preparation and conduct of such a lesson, as well as provides criteria for assessing students’ work in the classroom. Scientific novelty of the research lies in developing the structure, stages of preparation, methods of conducting and assessing a conference lesson as a form of teaching a foreign language at a university through the integration of project-based learning, the case method, discussion, business simulation games involving non-linguistic students at a higher education institution as exemplified by students studying at the Institute of Mathematics and Information Technology of the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution for Higher Education “Volgograd State University”. As a result, the main stages of a conference lesson and its advantages in the development of students’ professional foreign-language competence have been characterised.
In this article, possessivity is considered to be a linguistic way of integrating an object (thing) into a relation, connected, first of all, with the idea of owning, wealth and property. Owning a thing is one of the most important concepts regulating social relations. The grounds on which a thing belongs to its holder, in various legal and cultural traditions, often serve as justification of the material advantage and the manifestation of privileges. The relations of possessivity aimed at holding the object in the subject’s sphere are proposed to be constructed in the form of cognitive models, the content of which is the multidirectional process, which is reflected in the semantics of linguistic units and has lingua-cultural specifics. The article proposes cognitive models of possessive relations and describes the language tools representing the structural components of the constructed cognitive models. The relevance of various characteristics to the compared languages and cultures based on the comprehensive analysis of verbalization of the structural components of these models has been identified in this work.
