Chronic kidney disease has become a worldwide public health problem, and it negatively affects oral health. However, the data of the hemodialysis (HD) patients in Chinese population is unknown. This study was aimed to evaluate the dental health status and oral hygiene behavior of the HD patients in China. Patients undergoing HD therapy at two hospitals were asked to finish a questionnaire and receive dental examination (DMF-T). A total of 306 patients, aged 24-88 (58.09 ± 14.06), took part in this study. Although majority of the patients (77.78%) brushed their teeth at least twice a day, few (less than 5%) had ever used dental floss or mouthwash. More than half of the patients have not visited a dentist since the commencement of HD therapy. The dental examination showed that DMF-T was 9.63 ± 7.54, and the number of filled teeth (F-T) was only 0.70 ± 1.48. Moreover, the average caries restoration ratio and replacement index were 17.57% and 32.59%, respectively. HD therapy seems to prevent patients from visiting a dentist, and there is a great need for dental treatment for Chinese HD patients.

We studied the efficacy of prophylactic internal iliac artery balloon catheterization for managing severe hemorrhage caused by pernicious placenta previa.This prospective observational study was conducted in Tongji Hospital, Wuhan, China. One hundred sixty-three women past 32-week's gestation with placenta previa–accreta were recruited and managed. Women in the balloon group accepted prophylactic internal iliac artery balloon catheterization before scheduled caesarean delivery and controls had a conventional caesarean delivery. Intraoperative hemorrhage, transfusion volume, radiation dose, exposure time, complications, and neonatal outcomes were discussed.Significant differences were detected in estimated blood loss (1236.0 mL vs 1694.0 mL, P = .01), calculated blood loss (CBL) (813.8 mL vs 1395.0 mL, P < .001), CBL of placenta located anteriorly (650.5 mL vs 1196.0 mL, P = .03), and anterioposteriorly (928.3 mL vs 1680.0 mL, P = .02). Prophylactic balloon catheterization could reduce intraoperative red blood cell transfusion (728.0 mL vs 1205.0 mL, P = .01) and lessen usage of perioperative hemostatic methods. The incidence of hysterectomy was lower in balloon group. Mean radiation dose was 29.2 mGy and mean exposure time was 92.2 seconds. Neonatal outcomes and follow-up data did not have significant difference.Prophylactic internal iliac artery balloon catheterization is an effective method for managing severe hemorrhage caused by placenta previa–accreta as it reduced intraoperative blood loss, lessened perioperative hemostatic measures and intraoperative red cell transfusions, and reduce hysterectomies.

Background: Wound complications are a major source of morbidity after cesarean section (CS) and contribute to increased risks in subsequent pregnancies. In the present study, we aim to investigate the wound healing potential of a kind of oligopeptide compound, mainly derived from the marine fish peptides (MFPs), in rats after CS by biomechanical, biochemical, and histological methods. Methods: Eighty-four pregnant Sprague-Dawleyrats were randomly assigned to four groups, namely the control group and 1.1, 2.2, and 4.4 mg/kg MFP groups, respectively. The MFPs or normal saline of the equal volume was intragastrically administered every morning on the second day after CS. On days 5, 10, and 15 after the surgery, seven rats from each group were randomly selected. The samples of skin wound and uterus were harvested and then used for the following experiments and analyses. Results: Using the CS rat model, this study demonstrated that in the MFP groups, the skin tensile strength, uterine bursting pressure, and hydroxyproline (Hyp) were significantly higher than those in the control group at all three time points (P < 0.05). The formation of collagen and smooth muscle fibers and the expression of CD34 and connective tissue growth factor at the incision site were increasingly observed in the MFP groups (P < 0.05). Conclusions: MFPs have a great potential to accelerate the process and quality of wound healing in rats after CS.

This meta-analysis investigated the comparative efficacy and safety of PARP inhibitor monotherapy as maintenance treatment in platinum sensitive recurrent ovarian cancer (ROC). Electronic databases were systematically searched for relevant RCTs. The primary endpoint was PFS. The results were stratified based on three categories: BRCA mutated patients, HRD patients, and overall population. The secondary outcome were discontinuations due to adverse events and grade 3 or 4 adverse events in maintenance phase. Five eligible RCTs were included in the network meta-analysis. For patients with BRCA mutated ovarian cancer, olaparib-throughout (HR = 0.21 with 95% CrI: 0.081–0.55), rucaparib (HR = 0.23 with 95% CrI: 0.16–0.34), olaparib (HR = 0.27 with 95% CrI: 0.20–0.35), and niraparib (HR = 0.26 with 95% CrI: 0.17–0.41) were all highly effective in comparison with placebo at improving PFS. For HRD patients, both rucaparib (HR = 0.32 with 95% CrI: 0.24–0.42) and niraparib (HR = 0.38 with 95% CrI: 0.24–0.60) were all highly effective in comparison with placebo at improving PFS. For the overall population, olaparib-throughout (HR = 0.51 with 95% CrI: 0.34–0.76), rucaparib (HR = 0.37 with 95% CrI: 0.30–0.45), olaparib (HR = 0.35 with 95% CrI: 0.25–0.49), and niraparib (HR = 0.38 with 95% CrI: 0.30–0.48) were all highly effective in comparison with placebo at improving PFS. Regarding grade 3 or 4 adverse events, the incidence of grade 3 or 4 toxicity reactions to rucaparib and niraparib were significantly higher than in the olaparib group. In terms of discontinuations due to adverse events, the treatment discontinuations were not significantly different between the three drugs. In summary, all the included maintenance treatment regimens are effective regardless of BRCA mutational status, and no statistically significant differences between rucaparib, niraparib and Olaparib in terms of PFS. In terms of safety profile, the three drugs present manageable adverse events. Clinicians should consider potential adverse events related to each of these interventions in clinical practice, and the adverse events are generally manageable.
