Ключевые слова: Никколо Макиавелли, «Государь», ренессансная эпистема, «техника себя» В настоящей работе предлагается новая интерпретация знаменитого афоризма Никколо Макиавелли из трактата «Государь»: «...из всех зверей пусть государь уподобится двум: льву и лисе» (гл. XVIII) 2 . Его смысловое содержание будет соотнесено с различными типами знания эпохи Возрождения (прежде всего с «тайным»), которые ранее привлекались исследователями не в комплексе. Сочинения Макиавелли, как я попытаюсь показать ниже, порождены цельной картиной мира ренессансного интеллектуала, представлявшей собой уникальную конфигурацию магических, алхимических, астрологических, медицинских дискурсов.Продемонстрировать потребность в подходе, характерном для современной интеллектуальной истории, можно задавшись вопросом: как именно государь (или любой другой человек) способен «уподобиться» животному? О смысле, заключенном в звериной метафоре, можно лишь догадываться, и неизвестно, значила ли она для человека Возрождения то же, что и сейчас для нас. Мы бы сказали, что уподобиться льву или лисе -значит быть храбрым или хитрым. Однако Роберт Дарнтон, автор знаменитой книги «Кошачье побоище» 3 , где показывается, как метафоры становились для людей прошлого реальными жизненными сценариями, утверждает в дискуссии с Роже Шартье, что в некоторые исторические эпохи «символизм функционировал по принципу онтологической сопричастности, а не как простое отношение репрезентации, обозначения» 4 . Другими словами, для Макиавелли образы льва и лисы вполне могли быть не абстрактными символами моральных качеств, а частью материального мира, окружающей реальности per se.Чтобы увидеть в афоризме Макиавелли наибольший объем актуальных для современника смыслов, нужно взглянуть на ренессансную картину мира именно под углом зрения единства контекстов характерного для нее знания, определить режим, в котором ими должен оперировать государь.
