It is noted that zones of increased concentrations of components tending to segregation are formed within the vessel when multi-component mixtures of granular materials are prepared. Well-regulated charging of components of the mixture into a circulation mixer is the most rational means of solving this problem. A design of mixers, in which various alternate schemes for the charging of key components into the mixer are technically feasible in practice, is patented. Results of numerical experiments indicated that variation in the charging rate of key components will make it possible to improve the quality of the finished product by 30-40%. A similar method of optimizing the conditions under which the process proceeds can also be used for other types of circulation mixers.Use of circulation-type mixers for the preparation of multi-component mixtures of granular materials is limited by the fact that zones of increased concentration of components tending to segregate are formed when the process is carried out within the vessel. Finer and/or heavier particles apply to this process. As a result, the quality of the finished product is unstable.Well-regulated charging of the components of a mixture into a circulation mixer is the most rational means of solving this problem; here, the character of this process should be preliminarily ascertained for any specific combinations of components of granular materials [1-3].Implementation of various regulations for the charging of key components into available types of equipment is problematic; Pershin [4] had therefore previously proposed a design of a batch-action mixer for granular materials. For the case of the preparation of a two-component mixture, the basic component is charged into the drum, and the key component in a pipe with a slotted cut-out, which is established along its axis over its entire length. The drum is turned, and the basic component moves along the closed circulation loop within the drum. Using its own reverse drive and control mechanism, the pipe is alternately turned in opposite directions with respect to the vertical diameter through an angle greater than the angle of repose of the granular material. Here, the granular material is uniformly distributed over the length of the pipe. Using the control mechanism, the reverse drive subsequently begins to rotate the pipe at a constant angular velocity in one direction -clockwise.When the angle of incline to the horizon, which is equal to the angle of repose, is achieved by the open surface of the granular material, the key component begins to exit from the pipe, and is distributed over the external surface of the basic component moving along the closed circulation loop within the cross section of the rotating drum [5].The method and design of the drum mixer for granular material [6], a diagram of which is shown in Fig. 1, has been patented for a continuous-action process. The unit consists of mixer 1 with charging assemblies 2-4, discharge assembly 5 for the finished mixture, batchers 6-8 for continuous feed of...
