Non-Hermitian parity-time ($${{{{{{{\mathcal{P}}}}}}}}{{{{{{{\mathcal{T}}}}}}}}$$ P T ) and anti-parity-time ($${{{{{{{\mathcal{APT}}}}}}}}$$ APT )-symmetric systems exhibit novel quantum properties and have attracted increasing interest. Although many counterintuitive phenomena in $${{{{{{{\mathcal{P}}}}}}}}{{{{{{{\mathcal{T}}}}}}}}$$ P T - and $${{{{{{{\mathcal{APT}}}}}}}}$$ APT -symmetric systems were previously studied, coherence flow has been rarely investigated. Here, we experimentally demonstrate single-qubit coherence flow in $${{{{{{{\mathcal{P}}}}}}}}{{{{{{{\mathcal{T}}}}}}}}$$ P T - and $${{{{{{{\mathcal{APT}}}}}}}}$$ APT -symmetric systems using an optical setup. In the symmetry unbroken regime, we observe different periodic oscillations of coherence. Particularly, we observe two complete coherence backflows in one period in the $${{{{{{{\mathcal{P}}}}}}}}{{{{{{{\mathcal{T}}}}}}}}$$ P T -symmetric system, while only one backflow in the $${{{{{{{\mathcal{APT}}}}}}}}$$ APT -symmetric system. Moreover, in the symmetry broken regime, we observe the phenomenon of stable value of coherence flow. We derive the analytic proofs of these phenomena and show that most experimental data agree with theoretical results within one standard deviation. This work opens avenues for future study on the dynamics of coherence in $${{{{{{{\mathcal{P}}}}}}}}{{{{{{{\mathcal{T}}}}}}}}$$ P T - and $${{{{{{{\mathcal{APT}}}}}}}}$$ APT -symmetric systems.

Ellerman bombs (EBs) are believed to be small-scale reconnection events occurring around the temperature minimum region in the solar atmosphere. They are often identified as significant enhancements in the extended Hα wings without obvious signatures in the Hα core. Here we explore the possibility of using the 1700 Å images taken by the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) onboard the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) to study EBs. From the Hα wing images obtained with the New Vacuum Solar Telescope (NVST) on 2015 May 2, we have identified 145 EBs and 51% of them clearly correspond to the bright points (BPs) in the AIA 1700 Å images. If we resize the NVST images using a linear interpolation to make the pixel sizes of the AIA and NVST images the same, some previously identified EBs disappear and about 71% of the remaining EBs are associated with BPs. Meanwhile, 66% of the compact brightenings in the AIA 1700 Å images can be identified as EBs in the Hα wings. The intensity enhancements of the EBs in the Hα wing images reveal a linear correlation with those of the BPs in the AIA 1700 Å images. Our study suggests that a significant fraction of EBs can be observed with the AIA 1700 Å filter, which is promising for large-sample statistical study of EBs as the seeing-free and full-disk SDO/AIA data are routinely available.

Atmospheric turbulence reduces the image quality and resolution of ground-based optical telescopes. Future large solar telescopes (e.g. the CGST, China Giant Solar Telescope) should be equipped with adaptive optics (AO) systems. The design of AO systems is associated with atmospheric optical turbulence parameters, especially the profile of the refractive index structure $C_{n}^{2}(h)$. With the solar differential image motion monitor (S-DIMM) and the profiler of the moon limb (PML), a simplified version of a PML, termed a profiler of the differential solar limb (PDSL), was built in order to determine the daytime $C_{n}^{2}(h)$ and other atmospheric turbulence parameters. A PDSL with differential solar limb fluctuations was used to determine the turbulence profiling, and the extended solar limb extends the range of separation angles for a higher resolution of the height profile. The PDSL structure and its performance are described. In addition, numerical simulations were conducted to verify the effectiveness of the method. As revealed from the simulation results, the layered integral coefficient matrix is capable of solving the discretization error and enhancing the inversion accuracy of the turbulence contour. The first test results at Mt Wumingshan (a candidate site for the CGST) are presented.
