Numerical study on fatigue life of ZK60 magnesium alloy plate before and after laser shot peening (LSP) was carried out in this paper. Based on the FEA model, residual stress field induced by LSP was analyzed, the fatigue life and position of weak area were predicted with ABAQUS software and MSC.Fatigue code, respectively, and the processing parameters were optimized. The results show that the fatigue life of ZK60 sheet metal by single LSP with one side and both sides increased by 72.9% and 78.5% compared with the untreated sample respectively. The size and depth of compressive residual stress increase with the increment of peening number, but when the peening number gets to a certain value, the residual stress reaches saturation and the fatigue life increase no longer significantly.
Laser shot peening (LSP) has recently received more and more attention as a viable laser processing technology, since it can obtain the desirable residual compressive stress to improve fatigue life of the material by precisely controlling laser parameters. The purpose of this paper is mainly to explore the optimal residual compressive stress in the surface layer during LSP by statistical optimization algorithm. Based on the finite element analysis software ANSYS, Multi-island Genetic Algorithm (MIGA) is adopted to find the best solution of design requirements, the control parameters are laser pulse energy and spot diameter, while the aim parameters are residual compressive stress and deformation values, respectively. The results indicate that the optimal residual compressive stress obtained by integrated optimization technique can significantly improve the mechanical properties of the target after LSP. It provides a guiding importance for parameters optimization in future experimental research and practical application.
Considering the efficiency and microscale requirement of melting polymer in micro-injection process, we present an experimental analysis of the CO2 laser irradiating Polyamide 12 (PA12) based on the photo-thermal effect of laser-materials interaction. The orthogonal experiments of laser plasticizing were designed by Taguchi method of Minitab software, the influence of process parameters on PA12 plasticization was investigated, and the effect sequence rule of the experiment parameters to melting depth was analyzed. Accordingly, the optimal process parameters combination on PA12 plasticization were obtained,i.e. laser power 3 W, beam diameter 2 mm, scanning velocity 200 mm/min, scanning distance 0.5 mm and environment temperature 20°C.
Micro-scale laser shock peening (μLSP) is a flexible and precise process that can potentially be applied to metallic structures in micro devices to improve strength and reliability performance. In order to understand the mechanism of μLSP process, a typical experiment was carried out for copper foils specimen with various process parameters. Surface morphology, deformation and hardness of the specimens were observed and characterized by 3D microscope system and situ nano-mechanical test system respectively. It was found that overlapping rate of laser spot has a little effect on microscopic deformation depth which increases slowly with the increasing of laser energy, and micro-hardness of the laser treated specimens was improved significantly.
Electronic in-process dressing (ELID) grinding will be a main technology of ultra-precision grinding which has been widely adopted to the ultra-precision and high effectively machining of hard and brittle materials. This study puts forward a new environmental friendly bamboo charcoal bonded (BCB) grinding wheel and develops a new ELID grinding fluid. An oxide layer is mostly determined by the electric performance of grinding fluid in the experiment. This paper founds a model to forecast grinding fluid’s electric performance by BP neural network and MATLAB. This method can be used in developing of ELID grinding machining fluid to improve the ELID grinding effect.
