The design and engineering of multifunctional nanostructures with multiple components and synergistic properties are in urgent demand for variety of acceptable biosensing platforms, enabling users to fulfill multiple tasks in a single nanosystem. Herein, we report using an asymmetric hematite-silica hybrid of Janus γ-Fe2O3/SiO2 nanoparticles (JFSNs) as a multifunctional biosensing platform for sensitive colorimetric detection of H2O2 and glucose. It was demonstrated that JFSNs exhibit an intrinsic peroxidase-like catalytic activity. Compared with natural enzyme, JFSNs nanoenzymes could be used over a wider range of pH and temperatures and were more stable over time. Importantly, besides its excellent catalytic activity, the asymmetric properties of the Janus nanoparticle enable it to form the multiple functional utilities for various biosensing applications, including the ease of surface modification without deactivation of catalytic activity and recoverable use by magnetic separation. Thus, we utilized JFSNs with glucose oxidase (GOx) immobilization for glucose-sensitive colorimetric detection, which exhibited both catalytic activity of glucose oxidase and peroxidase with high selectivity and acceptable reproducibility. By combining these two analysis systems into Janus particles, an all-in-one and reusable sensor for blood glucose was formed and has the capability for determination of glucose in complex samples such as serum. These results suggest that such Janus nanosystems have the potential to construct robust nanoarchitecture with multiple functionalities for various biosensing applications.
Metacognition, self-efficacy, and motivation are important components of interaction in self-regulated learning (SRL). However, the psychological mechanism underlying the association among them in mathematical learning remained ambiguous. The present study investigated whether the relationship between metacognitive knowledge (MK) and mathematics performance can be mediated by self-efficacy and motivation. The sample comprised 569 students (245 male, Mage = 16.39, SD = 0.63) of Grade 10 in China. The MK in mathematics questionnaire, the self-efficacy questionnaire, the academic motivation scale, Raven advanced progressive matrix, and mathematics tests were used for data collection. Our results suggested that the mathematics performance could be predicted by MK, self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation. Moreover, the association between MK and mathematics performance was mediated by self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation, as revealed by a multiple mediation analysis. Additionally, there were sex differences in MK, self-efficacy and intrinsic motivation. The findings highlight the psychological mechanism in the mathematics of Chinese students and will help teachers to improve students’ mathematical learning in SRL framework more effectively. Implications for education and further studies are discussed.
In the probe limit, we numerically construct a holographic p-wave superfluid model in the four-dimensional (4D) and five-dimensional (5D) anti-de Sitter black holes coupled to a Maxwellcomplex vector field. We find that, for the condensate with the fixed superfluid velocity, the results are similar to the s-wave cases in both 4D and 5D spacetimes. In particular, the Cave of Winds and the phase transition always being of second order take place in the 5D case. Moreover, we find the translating superfluid velocity from second order to first order increases with the mass squared.Furthermore, for the supercurrent with fixed temperature, the results agree with the GinzburgLandau prediction near the critical temperature. In addition, this complex vector superfluid model is still a generalization of the SU(2) superfluid model, and it also provides a holographic realization of the He 3 superfluid system.
Multifunctional films with integrated temperature adjustment, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, and thermal camouflage are remarkably desirable for wearable products. Herein, a novel Janus-type multifunctional ultra-flexible film is fabricated via continuous electrospinning followed by spraying. Interestingly, in the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/phase change capsules (PCC) layer (P 1 ), the PCC is strung on PVA fibers to form a stable "candied haws stick" structure that obviates slipping or falling off. The film with sufficient melting enthalpy (141.4 J g −1 ) guarantees its thermoregulation capability. Simultaneously, its high mid-IR emissivity (90.15%) endows the film with radiative cooling properties (reducing temperature by 10.13 °C). Mechanical strength is significantly improved by superimposing a polylactic acid (PLA) layer (P 2 ) on its surface.
