Abstract2/3 of the Imjin River Basin area is located in North Korea, so it was hard to acquire reliable rainfall and hydrological information. This point is one of the factors that has added to flood damage. In this study, flood runoff for the river basin was simulated using hydrological radar, which is installed in an effort to reduce flood damage in the Imjin River Basin, which habitually suffers from flood damage. The feasibility of the distributed flood model was reviewed for the river basin, which is lacking in hydrological data such as rainfall and recent soil data. Based on the hydrograph, observed value was not consistent partially because of insufficient data, but peak discharge and the overall pattern showed relatively precise runoff results which can be applied in actual work.
In this research, a distributed rainfall-runoff model based on physical kinematic wave was developed to simulate temporal and spatial distribution of flood discharge considering grid rainfall and grid based hydrological information. The developed model can simulate temporal change and spatial distribution of surface flow and sub-surface flow during flood period, and input parameters of ASCII format as pre-process can be extracted using GIS such as ArcGIS and ArcView. Output results of ASCII format as post-process can be created to express distribution of discharge in the watershed using GIS. The Namgang Dam Watershed was divided into square grids of 500m resolution and calculated by kinematic wave into an outlet through channel networks to review capability of the developed model. The model displayed precise results to be compared to the hydrograph.
This study analyzed a hydrodynamic behavior using the EFDC model (Environmental Fluid Dynamics Code) in the downstream of the Nakdong River in the case of a storm surge and a localized torrential rainfall caused by a major typhoon, and the sea level rise caused by global warming. The study area is selected Gaduk island with the lower boundary and Jindong with the upper boundary, to investigate the total river hydrodynamic behavior including the estuary. In order to verify this numerical model, the calculated results was compared with the observed stage at each gauging point in case of the storm rainfall in 2003 and 2006. From the results, it was shown that the numerical model(EFDC) has high accuracy and is useful in simulating more various cases.
