: In this research, we surveyed the yield change of garlic cultivation with seed bulbs according to annual field culture after induced meristem culture. From 2007 to 2013, yearly produced seed bulbs from 2 nd to 8 th generation were cultivated in the Muan field. Over the generations, the general growth characteristics such as the plant height, leaf number, leaf length and stem diameter were all decreased. When we compared the conventional seed bulbs and TCR ones, the plant height and stem diameter showed bigger difference. And the TCR seed bulbs showed a week late harvest time against the conventional ones. The yield of 2 nd generation was 72.3 g and 57.1 g for the 8 th generation. However every generation showed higher yield than conventional seed garlic's ones as 43.9 g. The yield index showed the same trend as 2 nd -8 th to 63% to 21%. After the tissue culture of garlics, the viral infections (OYDV and GSV) of TCR was far less than that of conventional ones. In case of LYSV, the infection ratio was 6.7% at 2 nd generation and 26% at 8 th .However, the ratio was far less than that (80%) of the conventional ones.

A new F1 hybrid variety, 'Daekwanhwang', using a male sterile line was developed in Highland Agriculture Research Center (HARC), Rural Development Administration (RDA) at 2007. The cross was made between a male sterile line 'Manchuhwang' as a female parent and NIHA-5001 as a male parent in 2001. It was preliminarily selected as 'NIHA-GA-1' and advanced field trial was performed in 2003. Regional yield trial was carried out at three different highland areas from 2004 to 2006. The plant growth habit is erect and intermediate in plant shape and maturity, respectively. It grows 74.cm in height and has 8.5 number of leaves each plant. The average bulb weight of 'Daekwanhwang', was similar to that of commercial F1 hybrid 'Higuma' and bulb shape is oval. The skin color is yellowish brown and the storability is longer than that of 'Higuma'. Soluble solid contents and dry matter were higher than those of commercial F1 hybrid cultivar,'Higuma'

We evaluated and classified forty five onion cultivars according to bulb initiation, bulb and scale characteristics, minerals and organic compounds contents, and storage quality in South Korea during 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 growing seasons. Field experiment was conducted in randomized block design with three replications. Bulb initiation ranged from 153 days after transplanting (DAT, April 2) to 177 DAT (April 26). Fresh bulb weight (FBW) and bulb index (BI) were 285.5 ± 18.5 g/ individual, 0.93 ± 0.05, respectively. Number of scales (NS), number of center (NC), and scale thickness (ST) were 7.6 ± 0.2, 2.3 ± 0.2, and 5.5 ± 0.2 mm/scale, respectively. Chroma and Lightness of bulb skin were 27.1 ± 1.9, 61.2 ± 2.3, respectively. Storage loss (SL) on December 12 was 19.4 ± 5.9%. Nitrogen (N), Carbon (C) and sulfur (S) contents were 1.36 ± 0.14, 37.9 ± 3.2 and 0.40 ± 0.06 mg kg −1 on a fresh weight basis. Total soluble solids (TSS) and total phenolics content (TPC) were 8.6 ± 0.6 °Bx, 164.8 ± 15.6 mg GE kg −1 on a fresh weight basis. Days from transplanting to bulb initiation was significantly positively correlated with bulb height, NC, dry matter, N, C, S, TSS, TPC, total flavonoids content (TFC) etc., while it was negatively correlated with rot loss and SL. Dry matter content was significantly positively correlated with N, C, S, TSS, TPC, TFC etc., while it was negatively correlated with SL. Storage loss was negatively correlated with N, S, Potassium and TSS. Dendrogram of agglomerative hierarchical clustering for the forty five cultivars based on bulb initiation, bulb and scale characteristics, and bulb minerals and organic compounds contents classified five cultivar groups. Cluster 1 featured the earliest bulb initiation and the greatest SL. Cluster 2 featured the fewest NS and NR, and the thickest ST. Cluster 3 featured the greatest FBW, and the most NS and NC. Cluster 4 featured the greatest BI and the thinnest ST. Cluster 5 featured the lowest SL, and the highest minerals and antioxidant compounds contents. This information should be helpful for onion growers to decide onion cultivar and for onion breeders to promote new cultivars depending on their purpose.

The fungus Didymella bryoniae causes gummy stem blight (foliar phase) and black rot (fruit phase) in cucurbits. As resistance to other diseases have been incorporated into cucurbits, losses due to gummy stem blight have increased. Populations derived from crosses between a cultivated watermelon (SS-4), susceptible to the fungus Didymella bryoniae and resistant plant introduction accessions (PI 189225 and PI 272778) are used to detect molecular markers linked to gummy stem blight disease resistance. Genomic DNA was purified from primary leaves of watermelon seedlings before seedlings were inoculated with a spore suspension of the fungus. Disease severity was rated 4 days after inoculation. DNA bulked from resistant or susceptible BC seedlings was amplified to detect AFLP markers. Linkages between gummy stem blight resistance and AFLP markers were identified and should facilitate evaluation and selection of watermelon populations segregating for gummy stem blight resistance.
