Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent skin disease without any cure so far. The symptoms of the guttate psoriasis of Soyangins going through tonsillitis and of the psoriasis under the steroid rebound phenomenon are identical to one of yang poison exanthema of a Soyangin. The study administered Yangdokbagho-tang, which is used to cure yang poison exanthema of Soyangins, and, as a result, showed significant treatment results from these two types of four clinical cases. Sasang medicine is considered an effective treatment method to cure psoriasis, an obstinate skin disease.
Chronic inflammatory skin diseases, such as atopic dermatitis, are caused by the accumulation of immune cells and the overproduction of chemokines, including CCL17 and CCL22, due to the activation of pro-inflammatory cytokines secreted from keratinocytes. In the present study, the inhibitory activity of HM-V on tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α)/interferon gamma (IFN-γ)-induced pro-inflammatory cytokines was examined in human keratinocytes (HaCaTs) and 2,4-dinitrofluorobenzene (DNCB)-induced chronic skin contact dermatitis animal models. Traditional Asian medicinal herb extracts mixture (HM-V), which have been extensively used in Asian medicine, were utilized. In TNF-α/IFN-γ-induced HaCaTs, HM-V strongly inhibited mRNA and protein expression of CCL17 and CCL22 in a concentration-dependent manner. The expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 was also inhibited. Therefore, localized administration of HM-V in the DNCB-induced animal model alleviated immune cell deposition and skin inflammation. The results indicate that HM-V exerts inhibitory effects on keratinocyte production of CCL17 and CCL22. Furthermore, HM-V may be a useful anti-inflammatory agent for the prevention and treatment of inflammatory skin diseases.
Objectives : The purpose of this study is to know the effect of Korean medical treatments on prurigo nodularis. Methods : We treated a 9-years-old boy patient with prurigo nodularis with Korean Medicine. After Korean medical treatment for 6 months, we measured the change of nodule and itching. Results & Conclusions : Symptoms of prurigo nodularis were improved remarkably. Nodule was reduced and itching was removed. Thus Korean medical treatments are effective on prurigo nodularis.
Objectives : Pompholyx is a recurrent eczematous skin disease which forms the vesicles on the epidermis of the palms and soles. This study is to find out whether the Sasang Medicine makes any effective treatment of Pompholyx patients.Method : The treatment has been performed to 3 pompholyx patients who came to the clinic and were found to be Taeumin, Soeumin and Soyangin. To verify the effect of treatment, the comparison was made before and after the treatment on the improvement in vesicles, itching, erythema and erosions.Result : The effective treatment results were acquired in all 3 cases of pompholyx patients when Sasang Medicine was performed for the treatment of them. Conclusions : The Sasang medicine would be likely to be effective in treatment of pompholyx or a recurrent eczematous skin disease in the future.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
