Major prefabricated housing manufacturers started their business in the 1960s and became world‐class large housing companies. This study clarifies the early stages of development in 9 major prefabricated housing manufacturers based on interviews with their in‐house engineers and architectural designers as well as through the analysis of related documents. Early prefabricated houses were developed intensively by a small number of engineers. Various architectural styles and specialists, including foreign architecture, famous architects and academics, affected some aspects of these developments. Furthermore, each of the early prefabricated houses had many unique building system characteristics. Some of these characteristics were modified in the early stages of development, while others still remain today.
The purpose of this paper is to trace a process of housing supply of the residential complex that planned by the housing direction in which the housing estate was transforming.Kobushi-danchi, the object of this study, was composed of 490 semi-detached houses (980 households), which were built in the suburbs of Tokyo in 1966. It is assumed that the residents took part in the housing supply, because Kobushidanchi was planned by the housing co-op and improved by the resident organization after the development. Therefore this paper, based on the research using documents, focuses on the planning, the ownership and the residents' activities to analyze the change in this project.
is an area management project in a housing complex developed on redeveloped site. This study conducted a questionnaire survey on the project of the residents, and clarified how the project had affected the community and what kind of issues the project would face. The paper pointed out that there was a difference of perception for the necessity of area management activities among residents, which could depend on social and special contexts.
This paper is an educational report to facilitate richer education of building production in technical colleges and universities. The followings are shown by reviewing nine textbooks of building production and a questionnaire survey to two hundred forty two departments of architecture: firstly ninety three educational headings of building production are listed up, which are led from seven viewpoints. And three lecture types are found out, which are classified according to an amount of lecture time spent for construction management and use of existing buildings.
