Abstract:Currently the large surplus of glycerol formed as a by-product during the production of biodiesel offered an abundant and low cost feedstock. Researchers showed a surge of interest in using glycerol as renewable feedstock to produce functional chemicals. This Minireview focuses on recent developments in the conversion of glycerol into valueadded products, including citric acid, lactic acid, 1,3-dihydroxyacetone (DHA), 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PD), dichloro-2-propanol (DCP), acrolein, hydrogen, and ethanol etc. The versatile new applications of glycerol in the everyday life and chemical industry will improve the economic viability of the biodiesel industry.
in Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com).The synthesis of 2-acetyl-6-(1-naphthyl)-pyridine oxime ligand from 2,6-dibromopyridine and 1-bromo-naphthalene is described, and the new palladium(II) complex used as a Pd(0) precatalyst in the Suzuki cross-coupling reaction was studied. The results showed that the novel naphthalene pyridine oxime complex could serve as an efficient precatalyst.

S y n t h e s i s o f T e t r a h y d r o q u i n o l i n e -3 -c a r b o x y l a t e sAbstract: Novel racemic polyhydroquinoline derivatives were synthesized by a one-pot approach via a modified Hantzsch reaction and then by aromatization. The optical resolution was carried out by using lipase L-2 in MTBE containing one equivalent of butanol. This method allows the preparation of (+)-7 (>99% ee) and (-)-8 (99% ee) in 50% yield, respectively. The E value is up to 1175.
The resolution of 1,1'-binaphthyl-2-yl(phenyl)methanone O-acetyl oxime catalyzed by lipase in three different ionic liquids, 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluoride-phosphate, [bmim][PF 6 ], 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate, [bmim] [BF 4 ] and N-butyl-pyridium hexafluorophosphate, [BuPy][PF 6 ] and organic solvents was studied. The lipase shows low activity in ionic liquids and organic solvent with ionic liquids as the additive, while the lipase coated with ionic liquids gives the best enantioselectivity as high as 95 %
