La producción industrializada de hortalizas y frutas en el sur de Jalisco, México ha tenido un crecimiento espectacular durante las más recientes cuatro décadas. Sin embargo, su desarrollo está basado en buena medida en la sobreexplotación del medio ambiente, situación que incluso puede llegar a poner en riesgo la viabilidad futura de la vida humana, así como de otras especies. A la luz del concepto “naturaleza vulnerada”, en este trabajo se discuten dichos impactos en aspectos clave como los cambios de uso de suelo y la menor extensión de los bosques, así como la disminución de las reservas de agua, impactos derivados principalmente del crecimiento en las plantaciones de aguacate a partir del año 2000.
La obra tiene como objetivo mostrar las inconsistencias y debilidades teóricas y prácticas que presenta el paradigma del desarrollo, cuyas consecuencias han sido contrarias al bienestar humano que prometió y, sobre todo, negativas contra la naturaleza. Ante ello, se señalan diferentes alternativas de vida al desarrollo que se utilizan y promueven en distintas partes del mundo, básicamente retornando las enseñanzas ancestrales y reacondicionándolas para las circunstancias actuales. Presentamos un modelo que busca impulsar la noción del buen vivir en el sur de Jalisco, México, a través de la vinculación de las comunidades, con académicos y estudiantes universitarios, vía el fomento de la agroecología, las economías alternativas (como la solidaria), así como el diálogo transdisciplinar de saberes.
La globalización de los mercados y los gobiernos neoliberales han provocado la pauperización en las condiciones de vida de las clases trabajadoras y los grupos populares. En ese contexto resurgen las iniciativas de economías alternativas a la de mercado, basadas en la solidaridad y la reciprocidad. El tianguis Pochtecatl de economías alternativas es un esfuerzo en el sur de Jalisco, México, que busca mejorar el cuidado de la naturaleza, reafirmar los vínculos comunitarios y reivindicar los saberes regionales. Este tianguis ha transitado por distintas etapas, enfrentando retos y errores, así como reafirmando convicciones entre sus actores. Concluimos que estos esfuerzos son fundamentales para revertir la injusticia y la inequidad que genera el modelo económico hegemónico. Sin embargo, lograr que tales iniciativas trasciendan de los buenos deseos a resultados efectivos y sostenibles requiere convicción y compromiso por todos los actores con respecto a los retos que representa su instrumentación.
Objetivo: explicar la forma en la que se ha construido, conjuntamente con habitantes de comunidades rurales del sur de Jalisco, un sistema de intercambio económico y educación comunitaria que pretende convertirse en alternativa al desarrollo individualista occidental. Metodología: el practi-torio comunidad y buen vivir trabaja bajo las metodologías de investigación acción participativa revalorizadora y campesino a campesino para el intercambio de saberes y experiencias productivas. Resultados: el practi-torio se ha conformado de cuatro grandes áreas: la producción agroecológica, el comercio e intercambio de productos mediante el uso de prácticas provenientes de las economías alternativas, el intercambio de saberes rurales, así como la divulgación de experiencias rurales a través de distintos medios de difusión. Limitaciones: problemas de acceso a algunas comunidades, resistencia de algunos actores respecto de los preceptos que guían al practi-torio, contradicciones entre lo que se dice y lo que se hace derivado de condicionamientos socioculturales, así como escasez de recursos financieros y humanos, han dificultado que exista una mayor acogida del practi-torio en la región. Conclusiones: reconocemos que la adopción de prácticas tendientes al buen vivir en el sur de Jalisco, será lenta y de largo plazo, pues involucra un sustancial cambio cultural que, por lógica, es paulatino. Por ello, se necesitan intensificar las actividades en las comunidades, donde los propios pobladores se involucren en su definición, organización y ejecución.
La industrialización de la agricultura en México, surgida en el marco de la guerra fría para lograr la autosuficiencia alimentaria y consolidada bajo el modelo económico neoliberal, ha generado graves consecuencias al medio ambiente de muchas regiones productoras, que hoy son vulnerables a distintas crisis. A través de la revisión bibliográfica y estadística, en este trabajo mostramos cómo el uso desmedido de pesticidas y fertilizantes químicos, así como la sobre explotación de acuíferos, suelos y zonas forestales, han derivado en diversos daños a la naturaleza y a la salud de las personas. Ante ello, es importante cuestionarnos si realmente ha sido adecuado adoptar este proceso industrializador y, sobre todo, si se debe seguir manteniendo o resulta necesario un cambio de paradigma.
