Wood resources obtained from forest and non-wood forest products (NWFP) have gained great importance recently as their economic values keeps increasing by the day. In this study, forecasting of Turkish Non-Wood Forest Products such as thyme, bay leaves, salvia and pine nut export amounts was carried out using a linear regression analysis method for the next fifteen years based on the data for the years between 1990 and 2009. Moreover, estimated import values and actual import values from the last years were compered and analyzed. Finally, predictions on future trends were made.
Wood materials have been used in many products such as furniture, stairs, windows, and doors for centuries. There are differences in methods used to adapt wood to ambient conditions. Impregnation is a widely used method of wood preservation. In terms of efficiency, it is critical to optimize the parameters for impregnation. Data mining techniques reduce most of the cost and operational challenges with accurate prediction in the wood industry. In this study, three data-mining algorithms were applied to predict bending strength in impregnated wood materials (Pinus sylvestris L. and Millettia laurentii). Models were created from real experimental data to examine the relationship between bending strength, diffusion time, vacuum duration, and wood type, based on decision trees (DT), random forest (RF), and Gaussian process (GP) algorithms. The highest bending strength was achieved with wenge (Millettia laurentii) wood in 10 bar vacuum and the diffusion condition during 25 min. The results showed that all algorithms are suitable for predicting bending strength. The goodness of fit for the testing phase was determined as 0.994, 0.986, and 0.989 in the DT, RF, and GP algorithms, respectively. Moreover, the importance of attributes was determined in the algorithms.
These NWFP are utilized to meet a range of needs both locally and nationwide. And also significant income is generated through export. In this study, the export of bay leaves, thyme, pine nuts, sage, cumin, anise, linden and chestnut which have a significant places in Turkey export, for 21 years (between 1995 and 2015) were investigated. And the collected data were classified and presented in graphics. Thus, the changes by years are shown with percent calculations.
That the foreign trade enjoys an important place in the industrialization policies shows the need to develop fiberboard industry and give important to this sector. For this reason, it has become very important to examine changes to occur in the production and foreign trade structure of fiberboard industry in Turkey over time. And hence in this study, models are established and projections are developed for production, import and export of Turkish fiberboard industry by econometric method. As a result of regression analysis performed, it is seen that fiberboard production of 2 million m 3 in 2006 shall increase 1.5 times in the year 2021, reaching to 3.4 million m 3 , and the fiberboard export around 200 thousands m 3 in 2004-2006 shall reach to 330 thousands m 3 and import of 500 thousands m 3 to 900 m 3 thousands in 2021.
