Background Traditional Chinese exercise ( TCE ) has widespread use for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease; however, there appears to be no consensus about the benefits of TCE for patients with cardiovascular disease. The objective of this systematic review was to determine the effects of TCE for patients with cardiovascular disease. Methods and Results Relevant studies were searched by PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, the Cochrane Library, the Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and the China National Knowledge Infrastructure. We covered only published articles with randomized controlled trials. The outcome measures included physiological outcomes, biochemical outcomes, physical function, quality of life, and depression. A total of 35 articles with 2249 cardiovascular disease patients satisfied the inclusion criteria. The pooling revealed that TCE could decrease systolic blood pressure by 9.12 mm Hg (95% CI −16.38 to −1.86, P =0.01) and diastolic blood pressure by 5.12 mm Hg (95% CI −7.71 to −2.52, P <0.001). Patients performing TCE also found benefits compared with those in the control group in terms of triglyceride (standardized mean difference −0.33, 95% CI −0.56 to −0.09, P =0.006), 6‐minute walk test (mean difference 59.58 m, 95% CI −153.13 to 269.93, P =0.03), Minnesota Living With Heart Failure Questionnaire results (mean difference −17.08, 95% CI −23.74 to −10.41, P <0.001), 36‐Item Short Form physical function scale (mean difference 0.82, 95% CI 0.32–1.33, P =0.001), and Profile of Mood States depression scale (mean difference −3.02, 95% CI −3.50 to −2.53, P <0.001). Conclusions This study demonstrated that TCE can effectively improve physiological outcomes, biochemical outcomes, physical function, quality of life, and depression among patients with cardiovascular disease. More high‐quality randomized controlled trials on this topic are warranted.

Low-quality evidence suggested that surgical treatment is more effective than non-operative treatment in improving physical functions; no significant difference was observed in adverse events. No firm recommendation can be made due to instability of the summarized data.

The current study aimed to evaluate the effect of a specially designed moderate-intensity aerobic dance (SDMIAD) on brain spontaneous activity in older adults with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (RS-fMRI). A total of 38 subjects with MCI were recruited to the current study and were randomized into two groups: Exercise (EG, n=19) and control (CG, n=19). The EG was treated with a SDMIAD and usual care for 3 months. The CG only received usual care. None of the patients were administered medicine that affected cognition during the intervention. The cognitive assessments and RS-fMRI examination were performed on the two groups at recruitment and after 3 months. The cognitive functions were assessed by various neuropsychological tests. The brain spontaneous activity change was assessed using an index, the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF) of fMRI signal. Cognitive assessments demonstrated that EG had significantly improved results in the Mini-Mental State Examination, the Montreal Cognitive Assessment, Wechsler Memory Scale-Revised Logical Memory (WMS-R LM) and the Symbol Digit Modalities Test (all P<0.05), and the difference in changes in WMS-R LM from baseline to 3 months between the EG and the CG was also statistically significant (P<0.05) after 3 months of SDMIAD. The performance of all the cognitive assessments did not demonstrate significant differences in CG. Compared with baseline, EG exhibited significantly increased ALFF in several areas, including the bilateral fronto-temporal, entorhinal, anterior cingulate and parohippocampal cortex after 3 months of SDMIAD (P<0.05); whereas the CG exhibited significantly increased ALFF only in a few areas, including right temporal and posterior cingulate cortex (P<0.05). The SDMIAD may effectively improve the cognitive function in older adults with MCI. RS-fMRI provided a quantitative method for evaluating the effect of aerobic exercise on cognitive function.

Background The aim of this study was to assess the passive stiffness of the medial and lateral gastrocnemius (MG and LG), Achilles tendon (AT), and plantar fascia (PF) at different ankle and knee positions. Material/Methods Stiffness was assessed using a portable hand-held device (MyotonPRO). In 30 healthy participants (15 males, 15 females) with the knee fully extended or flexed 90°, stiffness of the MG, LG, AT, and PF was measured at 50° plantar flexion, 0° (neutral position), and 25° dorsiflexion (not for AT) of the ankle joint by passive joint rotation. Results With the knee fully extended, passive dorsiflexion caused significant increase in muscle stiffness ( P <0.001), whereas AT and PF stiffness increased with passive ankle dorsiflexion regardless of knee position ( P <0.001). Increased stiffness was observed in MG compared to LG ( P <0.001) and at the 3-cm site of AT compared to the 6-cm site ( P <0.05). Stiffness was greater in LG compared to MG at −50° plantar flexion ( P <0.001) and was greater in MG compared to LG at 25° dorsiflexion ( P <0.05). Stiffness of AT increased in a distal-to-proximal pattern: 0 cm >3 cm >6 cm ( P <0.001). Conclusions Stiffness assessed by use of the MyotonPRO was similar assessments using other techniques, suggesting that the MyotonPRO is capable of detecting the variations in stiffness of MG, LG, AT, and PF at different ankle and knee positions.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been demonstrated to be essential regulators in the development and progression of various cancers. The role of miR-188-5p in gastric cancer has not been determined. In this study, we found that the expression of miR-188-5p was downregulated in gastric cancer (GC) tissues compared with adjacent normal tissues. And lowly expressed miR-188-5p was significantly associated with lymph node metastasis and advanced TNM stage. Moreover, overexpression of miR-188-5p significantly inhibited GC cell proliferation, migration and invasion but promoted cellular apoptosis. In mechanism, we identified transcription factor ZFP91 as a target gene of miR-188-5p in GC. We found that miR-188-5p overexpression significantly inhibited the expression of ZFP91 in GC cell lines. And there was an inversely correlation between the expression of miR-188-5p and ZFP91 in GC tissues. What's more, we found that restoration of ZFP91 in miR-188-5poverexpressed MGC-803 and SGC-7901 cells promoted cell proliferation, migration and invasion. Finally, we also showed that overexpression of miR-188-5p inhibited tumor growth in vivo. Taken together, our findings indicated that miR-188-5p serves as a tumor suppressor in human gastric cancer by targeting ZFP91, suggesting that miR-188-5p might be a promising therapeutic target for GC treatment.
