Background Virtual reality (VR) has been broadly applied in post-stroke rehabilitation. However, studies on occupational performance and self-efficacy as primary outcomes of stroke rehabilitation using VR are lacking. Thus, this study aims to investigate the effects of VR training on occupational performance and self-efficacy in patients with stroke. Methods This was an assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial. Sixty participants with first-ever stroke (< 1-year onset) underwent rehabilitation in a single acute hospital. Participants were randomly assigned to either the VR group (n = 30) or control group (n = 30). Both groups received dose-matched conventional rehabilitation (i.e., 45 min, five times per week over 3 weeks). The VR group received additional 45-min VR training for five weekdays over 3 weeks. The primary outcome measures were the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure and Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire. Secondary outcome measures included Modified Barthel Index, Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity, and Functional Test for the Hemiplegic Upper Extremity. The assessment was conducted at baseline and after the 3-week intervention. Results A total of 52 participants (86.7%) completed the trial. Significant between-group differences in Stroke Self-Efficacy Questionnaire (Median Difference = 8, P = 0.043) and Modified Barthel Index (Median Difference = 10, P = 0.030) were found; however, no significant between-group differences in Canadian Occupational Performance Measure, Fugl-Meyer Assessment-Upper Extremity, and Functional Test for the Hemiplegic Upper Extremity were noted. No serious adverse reactions related to the program were reported. Conclusions Additional VR training could help improve the self-efficacy and activities of daily living of patients with stroke; however, it was not superior to conventional training in the improvement of upper limb functions, occupational performance, and satisfaction. Nevertheless, VR could be integrated into conventional rehabilitation programs to enhance self-efficacy of patients after stroke. BackgroundWith the increasingly severe energy shortage and climate change problems, developing wind power has become a key energy development strategy and an inevitable choice to protect the ecological environment worldwide. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) and analyze its risk factors among operation and maintenance personnel in wind farms (OMPWF).MethodsA cross-sectional survey of 151 OMPWF was performed, and a comprehensive questionnaire, which was modified and combined from Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaires (NMQ), Washington State Ergonomics Tool (WSET) and Syndrome Checklist-90(SCL-90) was used to assess the prevalence and risk factors of LBP among OMPWF.ResultsThe prevalence of LBP was 88.74 % (134/151) among OMPWF. The multivariable model highlighted four related factors: backrest, somatization, squatting and lifting objects weighing more than 10 lb more than twice per minute.ConclusionsThe prevalence of LBP among OMPWF appears to be high and highlights a major occupational health concern.

Background: Rotator cuff tear is one of the most common diseases in orthopedics, which seriously affects the quality of patients’ lives. And the arthroscopic repair of rotator cuff has recently become more and more popular. Systematic rehabilitation makes great significance for improving the prognosis of postoperative patients. Yet, the traditional outpatient rehabilitation is hard to popularize in developing countries like China due to the limitation of traffic and geography. Given this, we plan to develop a telerehabilitation system to facilitate doctors' remote guidance on patients' rehabilitation.Methods/design: Our study is a single-center, prospective randomized controlled trial. 124 patients who underwent arthroscopic rotator cuff repair will be recruited for the study. They will be randomly divided into 2 groups (62 cases in each group) based on the stratification factors of the operator, operation and preoperative diagnosis. The patients in the control group will get clinic and booklet based rehabilitation treatment after operation. However, patients in the experimental group will receive mobile phone and motion-capture device based programs for telerehabilitation after surgery. The primary outcome will be measured by the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES). Secondary outcomes include the Range of motion (ROM), Visual Analogue Scales (VAS), EuroQol-5 Dimension health questionnaire (EQ-5D), University of California at Los Angeles（UCLA）and the retear rate.Discussion: We hypothesize that patients who utilized mobile phone and motion-capture device based telerehabilitation will benefit more in the range of motion and shoulder function than those who received outpatient and manual based rehabilitation. If the hypothesize was confirmed, we could facilitate telerehabilitation for doctors and overcome the geographical and traffic limitations of traditional clinical based rehabilitation.Trial registration: ChiCTR.org.cn, ChiCTR2000030150, Registered on 24 February 2020
