Common Information Model (CIM) is emerging as a standard for information modelling for power control centers. While, IEC 61850 by International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is emerging as a standard for achieving interoperability and automation at the substation level. In future, once these two standards are well adopted, the issue of integration of these standards becomes imminent. Some efforts reported towards the integration of these standards have been surveyed. This paper describes a possible approach for the integration of IEC 61850 and CIM standards based on mapping between the representation of elements of these two standards. This enables seamless data transfer from one standard to the other. Mapping between the objects of IEC 61850 and CIM standards both in the static and dynamic models is discussed. A CIM based topology processing application is used to demonstrate the design of the data transfer between the standards. The scope and status of implementation of CIM in the Indian power sector is briefed.
SmartGrids were introduced to make the grid operation smarter and intelligent. SmartGrid operations, upon appropriate deployment can open up new avenues and opportunities with significant financial implications. SmartGrids can continue towards enhancement of power market. The current status of the power market as well as initiations of SmartGrids in India are studied to scrutinize the potential power market enhancement with the advent of SmartGrids. This paper presents various SmartGrid initiatives and implications in the context of power market evolution in India.
Abstract-Indian power sector is growing at an enormous pace. Building and operating such a power system is a challenging problem. The power network which carries the MWs across large distances is analogous to a "muscle system" of human body. Likewise, the entire range of associated monitoring and control network is analogous to a "nervous system". While strengthening the muscles is important in order to fully realize the potential, they also have to be complemented by an intelligent nervous system. This paper focuses on the intelligent grid aspects and the initiatives taken by the National Grid of India towards that direction. The participation of IBM -Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) in the Intelligent Utility Network (IUN) research is also mentioned.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
