Pengantin pesanan" atau "kawin foto" adalah salah satu bentuk penindasan dan kekerasan terhadap perempuan. Studi ini tidak menolaknya, tetapi ingin menunjukkan bahwa tidak selamanya perempuan "pengantin pesanan" menjadi korban jika; (1) kekerasan dan penindasan yang dihadapi perempuan bukan hanya "pengantin pesanan" saja tetapi juga kemiskinan dan kekerasan kultural dan struktur sosial yang tidak adil; (2) perempuan tetap melakukan perlawanan terhadap subjek yang menindasnya. Fokus utama studi ini adalah upaya perempuan keluar dari penindasan yang dialami, yaitu perlawanan terhadap kemiskinan, perlawanan terhadap kekerasan kultural, perlawanan terhadap orang Taiwan dan struktur sosial yang tidak adil di kampungnya. Penulis berpendapat studi ini sebagai otokritik terhadap wacana (feminisme) mainstream, sehingga perlu pendekatan alternatif untuk memahami kompleksitas "pengantin pesanan" yang menempatkan persepsi dan pengalaman (subjektifitas) perempuan sendiri sebagai pusat analisis, bukan mempersoalkan "pengantin pesanan" sebagai trafficking atau bukan trafficking. Subjektifitas perempuan terbentuk oleh wacana "Woman" tersebut, tetapi tidak sepenuhnya, karena pada dasarnya perempuan memang dikuasai, tetapi bukan berarti tidak bisa berbuat apa-apa, masih ada ruang gerak, atau ruang untuk melakukan negosiasi.
Kebijakan Act on Promotion of Women's Participation and Advancement in the Workplacemerupakan kebijakan pemberdayaan perempuan yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah Jepanguntuk menyerap tenaga kerja perempuan dalam masyarakat yang memegang nilai budayapatriarki dan memiliki budaya kerja yang berorientasi pada laki-laki (Man-oriented). Hal inimenimbulkan pertanyaan bagaimana kebijakan Act on Promotion of Women's Participationand Advancement in the Workplace dapat memberdayakan perempuan Jepang untukmenyerap tenaga kerja di sektor industri. Dalam penelitian ini menggunakan teori SistemPolitik dimana penulis menganalisis bahwa kebijakan Act on Promotion of Women’sParticipation and Advancement in the Workplace menargetkan sektor industri swasta untukmembuat perencanaan berdasarkan pedoman yang diberikan oleh pemerintah Jepang untuk meningkatkan jumlah perempuan di perusahaan-perusahaan swasta Jepang dengan melihatlingkungan budaya patriarki dan budaya kerja di Jepang.
