Chinese milk vetch (CMV) is vital for agriculture and environment in China. A pot experiment combined with 15N labeling (including three treatments: control, no fertilizer N and CMV; 15N-labeled urea alone, 15NU; substituting partial 15NU with CMV, 15NU-M) was conducted to evaluate the impact of CMV on plant growth, development and 15NU recovery in rice-based rotation system. The 15NU-M mitigated oxidative damage by increasing antioxidant enzymes activities and chlorophyll content while decreased malondialdehyde content in rice root and shoot, increased the biomass, total N and 15N uptake of plant shoots by 8%, 12% and 39% respectively, thus inducing a noticeable increase of annual 15N recovery by 77% versus 15NU alone. Remarkable increases in soil NH4 + and populations of bacteria, actinomycetes and azotobacter were obtained in legume-rice rotation system while an adverse result was observed in soil NO3 − content versus fallow-rice. CMV as green manure significantly increased the fungal population which was decreased with cultivating CMV as cover crop. Therefore, including legume cover crop in rice-based rotation system improves plant growth and development, annual N conservation and recovery probably by altering soil nitrogen forms plus ameliorating soil microbial communities and antioxidant system which alleviates oxidative damages in plants.
Nicotine concentration is a key index and directly affects the industrial quality and availability of flue-cured tobacco (FCT). Seedlings transplanted at different times were subjected to different climatic conditions, which were closely correlated with the growth, development, and nicotine synthesis of FCT. An appropriate transplanting time is imperative for ensuring high-quality tobaccos. Hence, a 15 N tracing experiment in the field (which included three treatments: FCT seedlings transplanted on 5 th , 15 th , and 25 th May) was carried out to evaluate the influence of different transplanting dates on 15 N utilization and nicotine concentration in FCT leaves. Results showed that compared to the tobacco seedlings transplanted on 5 th May, the seedlings transplanted on 15 th and 25 th May increased the dry matter weight by 9.86 -87.5 % and N uptake by 24.4 -36.9 % in shoots during the field growing periods of FCT plants. However, it was notable that postponing the transplanting time of FCT seedlings decreased the proportion of nicotine-N to total N (26.9 -50.6 %), 15 N abundance in total N (7.27 -40.7 %), and nicotine-15 N abundance in total nicotine-N (7.30 -35.7 %), thus inducing a noticeable reduction of 24.3 -35.8 % in the nicotine concentration in FCT leaves. Hence, delaying transplanting time promoted dry matter and N accumulation, while it significantly decreased the nicotine concentration in FCT leaves, which is of great importance in improving the industrial quality and availability of tobaccos.
A scientific curriculum system is of vital importance for an institution’s professional accreditation. This paper seeks to improve the previous College English curriculum by resolving certain recalcitrant problems impeding both teaching and learning; furthermore, it takes into account the demands of international society. By embracing an outcome-based, student-centered approach for International Engineering education accreditation, the paper emphasizes teaching targets of a College English curriculum for future engineers based on knowledge, capacity and quality. In addition, it provides a graduation requirement index matrix and, a differentiated curriculum system, which specifies a clear relationship between the system and students’ outcomes. Finally, four characteristics of the system are elaborated: compulsory courses and optional courses are compared; English for General Purpose (EGP) and English for Special Purpose (ESP) are correlated; classroom teaching and extracurricular context are integrated; and formative assessment and summative assessment are combined.
With the reform of educational evaluation in China, moral education has received much attention. Many scholars have discussed different aspects of the topic. To fulfill the fundamental task of educating students by instilling virtues as proposed by the Central Government, colleges and universities across the country are carrying out education and teaching reform by striving to combine language teaching with moral education. But how can moral education be included in the teaching and learning of English? Is it possible to improve students’ morality while developing their linguistic ability? Based on Hauenstein's taxonomy of educational objectives, this study examined the cases of the Teaching Star final competition in 2020 as examples for analysis, aiming to identify the means to effectively improve the moral education of students in the teaching and learning of College English. All of the objectives and classroom activities are sorted out and analyzed as to whether the objectives of moral education were gained, according to the framework constructed under the guidance of Hauenstein’s taxonomy of educational objectives. The analysis is undertaken from the perspectives of moral education as the objectives, classroom activities and the completeness of the moral instruction system. It is showed that the candidate teachers have awareness of combining language teaching with moral education by formulating teaching objectives at various levels and considering the moral educational function in organizing classroom activities. Despite the results reported here, it is clear there is still much room for improvement. Some moral educational objectives do not display the characteristics of moral education. Most moral educational goals appear to be set at a low level, with the result that they fall short of creating a good behavior profile and, more importantly, of achieving the government’s moral educational goals. It appears clearly that the design of the classroom activities in the cases examined could not support the achievement of the moral educational goals. In consideration of all of these concerns, College English teachers may need to reconsider the cognitive levels of the moral educational goals and design different levels of classroom activities to achieve the goals. Keywords: Moral educational goals, classroom activities, behavioral domain, behavioral profile
