Pendidikan literasi saat ini marak diagunkan karena memiliki peran penting bagi masa depan anak. Namun, berbanding terbalik dengan teori, praktik pendidikan literasi di lapangan masih memerlukan perhatian. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendesain dan mengembangkan big book storytelling dwibahasa untuk mendukung perkembangan literasi anak usia dini. Menggunakan bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Inggris, big book disampaikan dengan teknik mendongeng yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan kosakata anak dan minat mereka terhadap kedua bahasa tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian pengembangan berdasarkan model Reeves (2006) dan melibatkan 74 guru taman kanak-kanak yang ada di Banjarmasin. Data dikumpulkan dengan teknik wawancara dan observasi. Tahapan pengembangan terbagi menjadi empat fase: analisis kebutuhan, pengembangan produk, implementasi, dan refleksi. Validasi ahli menunjukkan bahwa big book yang dikembangkan telah layak dan dapat digunakan untuk anak usia dini baik dari segi psikologis, pembelajaran, kualitas fisik, dan bahasa. There are a lot of opportunities for nurses to pursue their career or to continue their study abroad. However, many of them are afraid of taking this chance for many reasons, including the lack of English skills. This study aims to bridge the gap between the English language materials that does not suit the needs and demands of D3 Nursing to go international. The research method used is Research and Development adapting from Borg & Gall. The process of material development is based on the development phase of the Skill-Based Approach by Hutchinson & Water. The subjects of the study were 15 D3 nursing students from University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin. Mixed method was employed as the data analysis technique. The result of this study is six units materials accompanied with syllabus and lesson plans. The materials were good according to the experts’ validation and it significantly affected the students’ work-related language skills.
The present study aims to help nursing students to prepare the language skills required in the workplace. Need analysis was conducted to map the students’ need so suitable materials can be designed for effective teaching. There were fifteen students of D3 Nursing in the University of Muhammadiyah Banjarmasin invited to be the participants of this research. The data were gathered by conducting a depth interview with the English lecturer, BP3TKI South Kalimantan, alumni who worked abroad, and the head of D3 nursing department. It was intended to collect data related to important language skills the students need to master. Besides, a questionnaire was also employed to get data regarding the students’ need, want, and lack. The findings showed that D3 nursing students need to master at least three skills, such as basic English, work-related language skills, and academic-related language skills to enable them to go International.
Technology brings opportunities to extend the learning environment outside the classroom. An online course can be an extracurricular activity which allows the students to learn English for their career preparation. This article reports a developmental research for designing an online learning module for nursing students to pursue their career abroad. One English teacher and 40 nursing students from a private university participated in this research. Interview and questionnaire were employed to collect the data regarding the students’ need, usability, and the implementation of the product during the field try out. Two experts were also invited to evaluate the quality of the product’s content and instructional technology. The result of this developmental study is an online course and a workbook to accompany the students learning. The findings reveal that online learning has an opportunity to help students to shape their work-related language skills at home. The challenges for the implementation of this course are also discussed.
Meskipun masih terdapat kontroversi untuk mengenalkan literasi dwibahasa bagi anak usia dini di Indonesia, tetapi fenomena ini semakin marak di ranah pendidikan. Beberapa sekolah telah memprogramkan kegiatan ini sebagai bagian dari keunggulan mereka. Artikel ini mengeksplorasi penggunaan big book storytelling yang diterapkan oleh sebuah taman kanak-kanak yang ada di Banjarmasin, Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menemukan strategi penerapan big book storytelling yang tepat untuk pengenalan kemampuan dwibahasa bagi anak usia dini serta melihat respon mereka terhadap penggunaan media tersebut di dalam kelas. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian tindakan kolaboratif, dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi sebagai instrumen pengumpulan data terkait persiapan, pelaksanaan, dan refleksi pasca tindakan. Penelitian ini melibatkan dua orang guru dan 24 anak sebagai partisipan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa big book storytelling dapat digunakan untuk mengenalkan kosakata dwibahasa dengan tiga tahapan, yaitu 1) pengenalan kosakata melalui flashcard, 2) storytelling interaktif, dan 3) kuis interaktif. Berdasarkan hasil observasi, media yang digunakan bisa mempertahankan antusiasme anak dalam belajar, mengenalkan kosakata baru dalam dwibahasa, serta meningkatkan interaksi berbahasa. Implikasi pedagogis terhadap pembelajaran dwibahasa untuk anak usia dini didiskusikan.
