PALAVRAS-CHAVE: madeira nova, propriedades mecânicas, rigidez MECHANICAL CHARACTERIZATION OF WOOD Pterogyne nitens Tul ABSTRACTThis study aimed to characterize Pterogyne nitens Tul. timber species through its mechanical properties. The performed tests were: shear, parallel compression, hardness, static bending, and dynamic. The results showed the species has good strength and stiffness for most tests, with values above the standard, except for static and dynamic tests, which showed lower results than compared to other species. Therefore, the species can be applied in the composition of various structural systems, should also note, the necessity to perform the forestry management of the species to avoid imperfections in its timber.
