The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of accrual earnings management and business strategy to bankruptcy risk. Multiple Least Square (MLS) regression and robust regression of M-Estimator regression are performed on financial data of 1,068 non-financial firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). The result indicates that there is no relationship between earnings management and bankruptcy risk, while firms that implement either one of two generic business strategies of cost leadership or differentiation, significantly mitigate the risk of bankruptcy. The effect of earnings management to bankruptcy risk is essential for external stakeholders, such as investors and creditors, to assess bankruptcy risk, financial capability, and credit worthiness of a firm, while business strategy effect on bankruptcy risk benefits internal stakeholders, such as managers, in formulating strategies to deal with going concern issues.
PurposeThis research aims to provide evidence that firms that create product innovations (PROINVs) can improve the performance of firms in Indonesia. And then this research also provides evidence that firms with high technological capabilities can moderate the impact of PROINV on firm performance in Indonesia.Design/methodology/approachBased on the firm that disclosure research and development expenditures, the number of samples in this study is 261 annual reports for the period 2015–2020. Researchers used an estimate of Moderation Regression Analysis (MRA) with STATA 14.0.FindingsThe results showed that PROINV significantly affected firm performance, while technology capabilities (TECHCAP) did not. Then TECHCAP can moderate the impact of PROINV on the performance firm. This research showed that TECHCAP are pure moderation, whereas TECHCAP can weaken the impact of PROINV on firm performance.Research limitations/implicationsThis research can provide empirical results that firms in Indonesia must adapt to meet the needs of society in creating PROINVs and technological innovations to maintain a sustainable national economy. And then, this research provides the understanding that high TECHCAP can create sustainable PROINVs that can affect firm performance.Originality/valueThe novelty in this study researchers added variable moderation of technological capabilities to the model of the effect of PROINV on firm performance. A firm with high technological capabilities will be balanced with good research and development activities to create a long-term and sustainable firm orientation.
This study investigates graduate competencies that can improve the uptake of higher education graduate outcomes in the working environment in Indonesia. This research was conducted by collecting data through sending questionnaires directly by the research team, via courier, or via postal service to respondents. A survey with questionnaire is carried out on April 2019, and the data from 117 respondents was analyzed. The sample population was all private higher education in the area of the I-XIV Higher Education Service Institution in Indonesia. This study employs factor analysis and structural equation modelling. The results show that the Graduates" competencies had a significant direct effect on the uptake of higher education graduates in the job market. The indirect effect of a Diploma Supplement and networking as mediation has a level of influence that is higher than the direct effect of graduate competence on the uptake of higher education graduate outcomes in the job market. The findings suggest that the Diploma Supplement and networking can increase the uptake of higher education graduates in Indonesia as expected by stakeholders and be able to compete in the global or international scale of environmental working. The professionalism of lecturers has a significant influence on the quality of learning.
Based on inconsistent with previous research, this study aims to prove the effect of the board of directors’ diversity factors on the firm value through the sustainability report disclosure as the mediating variables empirically, this study aims to prove the effect of the board of director’s diversity factors on the firm value through the sustainability report disclosure as the mediating variables empirically. The multiple linear regression is performed on the financial data of 256 non-financial firms on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sample was determined using the purposive sampling method. This study found that sustainability report disclosure can mediate the board of directors’ effect on tenure and nationality diversity’s effect on the firm value. This study combines several boards of directors’ diversity factors into one, consisting of gender, age, tenure, educational level, and nationality, and empirically proves the theories used in this study.
Improving the welfare of its owner or shareholder and maximize shareholder value through increased firm’s value should be one of the goals in establishing a company. Consequently, it becomes essential for the company to continue to increase its value in order to retain the trust of its shareholders, for instance by conducting good corporate governance (GCG). On the other hand, from the owner’s point of view, it is important to not only evaluate the corporate governance, but also to take a look at firm’s growth opportunity, because it basically reflects the management’s productivity. Studies related to the influence of corporate governance on stock return have been extensively done before. Similarly, this research is related to the influence of growth opportunity on stock return. However, it is still difficult to find studies that combine these three variables, therefore this study aims to know the influence of good corporate governance on stock return directly and indirectly through firm’s growth opportunity by using sample data of 92 observation Corporate Governance Perception index lists in Indonesia Stock Exchange for 2010–2014. The analysis method of this research is the quantitative approach by hypothesis testing through path analysis performed with SmartPLS 3.0. The direct hypothesis result showed that: (1) good corporate governance did not have a significant influence on firm’s growth opportunity while; (2) it also had a negative influence and did not have a significant influence on stock return, and (3) firm’s growth opportunity had a significant influence on stocks return. However, the indirect hypothesis result showed that firm’s growth opportunity could not mediate the relationship between good corporate governance and stock return.
