The presence of mercury in soils, like other heavy metals, is associated with organic matter and minerals. Mercury deposited in soils is mainly in its oxidized form Hg2+. The adsorption of Hg (II) from aqueous solution into Ca-bentonite was studied. Adsorption percentage was determined as a function of shaking time and temperature to study the thermodynamics and kinetics of Hg (II) adsorption on Ca-bentonite, which was simulated using the MINSQ and GAUSSIAN 09 programs.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
