Front line demonstration is an appropriate means for demonstration as well as the transfer of improved agricultural innovation to the farming community. Krishi Vigyan Kendra Shajapur has conducted a front line demonstration in farmer’s field during 2013-14 to 2018-19, in all 45 demonstrations on the Green gram to transfer the latest technology among the farmers of Shajapur district. The result revealed that the highest green gram yield was obtained in demonstrated plot with an average of 7.98 qt/ha compared to 5.89 qt/ha in farmer’s practice. Higher average net return (` 33274/ha) was obtained in the demonstration plots compared to farmers’ practice plot (` 23003.66/ha). The average B:C ratio was calculated 3.39 in demonstrated plot compared to 2.77 in farmer’s plot. This can be attributed to improved technology as well as improved varieties. The yield level was considerably low under local practices because of considerable variation in the extent of adoption of recommended practices depending upon the amount of risk involved in terms of cost convenience, skill and knowledge about the concerned practices. The productivity was better over local practices under demonstration. Hence, Green gram production technology has a broad scope for increasing the area and production of Green gram.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shajapur conducted 60 front line demonstrations of soybean cultivation on the farmer’s field for a period of 4 years from 2012-13 though 2015-16 to transfer scientific soybean cultivation technology among the famers of Shajapur district. The result revealed that the improved varieties of soybean JS- 335, JS-93-05 and JS-95-60 recorded 9.06 per cent, 14.03 per cent and 10.14 per cent higher yield respectively in demonstration plot compared to farmer practices. The increase in productivity was observed under recommended technology over the check plots i.e. 18.18 per cent, 7.63 per cent, 11.50 per cent and 13.04 per cent during 2012-13, 2013-14, 2014-15 and 2015-16 respectively. The productivity was found better under demo plots as compared to local practices. Therefore, soybean cultivation has broad scope to increase the area and production in Shajapur district. The demonstration has raised an additional income of the farmer Rs 4500 to 11000 per ha and 3.49 to 4.68 increment benefit cost ratio.
Field experiments were conducted for four consecutive Kharif season of 2017-2020 at Organic Farming Research Centre, Sher-e- Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu, Chatha, located at 320 66' North latitude and 740 79' East longitude with an altitude of 356 meters above mean sea level in the Shiwalik foothills of North-Western Himalayas. The mean annual rainfall of the experimental site is 1198.2mm of which 70-75% rainfall is received from June to September. The soil of the experimental site was sandy clay loam in texture, slightly alkaline in reaction, medium in organic carbon, available phosphorus and potassium but low in available nitrogen. The experiment was laid out in split plot design with three replications. The experiment consisted of 05 (five) organic nutrients sources treatments with two crop establishment methods. The results showed that there were maximum plant growth characters of organic Basmati 370 like plant height, number of tillers, number of productive tillers, root length, number of roots, root volume, biological yield etc after using vermicompost @ 3.0 t ha-1 followed by FYM @ 8 t ha-1 under SRI method. In addition, SRI method was found to be effective in reducing pest and disease incidence, shortening crop rotations and improving plant conditions. It was found from the study that among the various treatments of organic nutrient sources, the highest (132.13 q/ha) biological yield of basmati 370 was recorded with the application of vermicompost @ 3t/ha which was statistically at par the application of FYM @ 8t/ha (130.20q/ha) respectively under SRI method.
