Transcription factors (TFs) are major trans-acting factors in transcriptional regulation. Therefore, elucidating TF–target interactions is a key step toward understanding the regulatory circuitry underlying complex traits such as human diseases. We previously published a reference TF–target interaction database for humans—TRRUST (Transcriptional Regulatory Relationships Unraveled by Sentence-based Text mining)—which was constructed using sentence-based text mining, followed by manual curation. Here, we present TRRUST v2 (www.grnpedia.org/trrust) with a significant improvement from the previous version, including a significantly increased size of the database consisting of 8444 regulatory interactions for 800 TFs in humans. More importantly, TRRUST v2 also contains a database for TF–target interactions in mice, including 6552 TF–target interactions for 828 mouse TFs. TRRUST v2 is also substantially more comprehensive and less biased than other TF–target interaction databases. We also improved the web interface, which now enables prioritization of key TFs for a physiological condition depicted by a set of user-input transcriptional responsive genes. With the significant expansion in the database size and inclusion of the new web tool for TF prioritization, we believe that TRRUST v2 will be a versatile database for the study of the transcriptional regulation involved in human diseases.
BackgroundIn this study, we aimed to develop and validate an instrument that could be used by patients with cancer to evaluate their quality of palliative care.MethodsDevelopment of the questionnaire followed the four-phase process: item generation and reduction, construction, pilot testing, and field testing. Based on the literature, we constructed a list of items for the quality of palliative care from 104 quality care issues divided into 14 subscales. We constructed scales of 43 items that only the cancer patients were asked to answer. Using relevance and feasibility criteria and pilot testing, we developed a 44-item questionnaire. To assess the sensitivity and validity of the questionnaire, we recruited 220 patients over 18 years of age from three Korean hospitals.ResultsFactor analysis of the data and fit statistics process resulted in the 4-factor, 32-item Quality Care Questionnaire-Palliative Care (QCQ-PC), which covers appropriate communication with health care professionals (ten items), discussing value of life and goals of care (nine items), support and counseling for needs of holistic care (seven items), and accessibility and sustainability of care (six items). All subscales and total scores showed a high internal consistency (Cronbach alpha range, 0.89 to 0.97). Multi-trait scaling analysis showed good convergent (0.568–0.995) and discriminant (0.472–0.869) validity. The correlation between the total and subscale scores of QCQ-PC and those of EORTC QLQ-C15-PAL, MQOL, SAT-SF, and DCS was obtained.ConclusionThis study demonstrates that the QCQ-PC can be adopted to assess the quality of care in patients with cancer.Electronic supplementary materialThe online version of this article (10.1186/s12904-018-0296-2) contains supplementary material, which is available to authorized users.
ObjectivesTo identify consumers’ consciousness of health-friendly products and services (consumer reaction, purchase intention and willingness to pay more) and its association with sociodemographic characteristics and multidimensional health status.MethodsFrom March to May 2018, we administered questionnaires to 1200 individuals from the general Korean population asking about their perception of health-friendly labels, and if they would purchase such labelled products (foods, pharmaceuticals, etc) and services (purifying water, preventing air pollution, etc) at extra cost.ResultsThe participants placed a high value on the importance of mental, social, spiritual and physical health factors in terms of the company’s products and services with a score of about 8 out of 10 (range, 7.74–8.33). Most respondents (72.4%) said that they were interested in adopting health-friendly labels. When a health-friendly label is introduced (such as one by the Business for Social Responsiveness), 65.1% of the respondents said that they intended to purchase the product or service, while 6.8% said that they did not and 75.0% said that they were willing to pay extra for the health-friendly product or service. Multivariate logistic regression models showed urban residence, high education level and good social health to be significantly associated with positive attitudes towards health-friendly labels. People with high income, no religion or normal weight were more likely to say that they intend to purchase products and services with health-friendly labels. They also had a more positive attitude towards paying more for such products and services, as did people with good spiritual health.ConclusionThis study provides data that illustrate the importance of health-friendly products and services to the general population and companies.
• We numerically investigate the influence of an asteroid's elongation on the sensitivity of its surface to tidal effect during a distant planetary encounter beyond the Roche limit. • Objects spinning rapidly, but below the spin barrier, tend to experience a dramatic change of the surface slope during the distant encounters. • A more elongated asteroid tends to have a higher slope variation, while the asteroid elongation causes a nonlinear increase in the total area having such a variation.

We numerically investigate tidally induced surface refreshing on Apophis during its close approach with Earth within a perigee distance of 5.96 Earth radii on April 13, 2029. We implement a tidal resurfacing model with two stages: dynamics modeling of the entire body to determine time-varying accelerations and surface slope profiles felt by each surface patch during the 6-h-long closest encounter, and DEM modeling to track motions of surface grains in localized patches. The surface slope profiles and measured grain motions are combined to statistically extrapolate the ‘expected’ percentage of resurfaced area. Using the tidal resurfacing model, we present surface maps showing the total expected resurfacing on Apophis given 3 representative encounter orientations. Our simulation results indicate that tidal resurfacing, limited to certain localized regions, will likely occur half an hour before perigee and on the scale of 1 per cent of Apophis’s entire surface area. Our models indicate that the most likely locations to detect tidal resurfacing are: initially high-sloped regions (>30○) regardless of the encounter orientation of Apophis, and mid-sloped regions (15○–30○) that experience a significant positive slope variation (>0.5○), which is mainly controlled by the encounter orientation. Expected data from ground-based observations of the 2029 flyby will help us better constrain the targeted locations likely to experience tidal resurfacing. We thus expect to find evidence supporting tidal resurfacing via further analysis of post-encounter surface images or albedo changes at the expected resurfaced areas.
